A few skincare staples…
Now I’m in the final… leg? of my pregnancy (which sounds absolutely wild to say!), I thought it would be the perfect time to round up some of my much loved pregnancy skincare staples. I’ve kept to a pretty simple routine, but there have been some products I simply could not have lived without during this period.
My skin changed dramatically almost as soon as I got pregnant, it was like night and day! It actually took me a while to get used to the change, especially the dryness – at first my skin itched so badly because it was so so dry, and I also broke out around my mouth due to how parched my skin was.
I had to introduce products I’ve never really needed before, from thick, luxurious oils to balms and creams – and you know what? I’ve absolutely loved it! I dread going back to my streamlined, everything-breaks-me-out routine once my skin settles back to how it was!
I got in to a really lovely routine while I was pregnant, every day I would take a few extra minutes to apply my belly cream and hair oil, sweep on some hand cream and spritz on a mist. I was always in a hurry before and pregnancy forced me to slow down and take a few extra minutes here and there, so even though these are just beauty products they really made me feel so pampered and restored. I would absolutely recommend taking an extra few minutes a day to pad out your routine a little!
This is such a treat for the skin, I couldn’t wait to try it as soon as I got pregnant. It’s a light balm that transforms in to an oil on the skin, sinking in instantly and leaving your bump and boobs (and anywhere else you want to apply it) super soft with a lovely glow. I use it every day, massaging it in to my big ol’ belly after a shower or as part of my evening routine. It’s kept me feeling hydrated and supple over the last few months and I’ll absolutely continue to use it postpartum too.
I could never really use an oil pre-pregnancy so I had to raid my stash when I realised my skin had gone awry! I found this Lina Hanson oil, a brand I’d never even heard of before, and it’s been my faithful staple ever since. It’s pricey but the natural ingredients list and heavenly formula really stood out amongst all the other oils I’ve tried, and I’ve been using it twice-daily for around 7 months now and the bottle is still going! Worth checking out if you want to treat yourself to a skincare staple.
Elemental Herbology Zest Sugar Body Polish
My legs look like those images you see of dry mud flats so a good scrub & lotion routine has been essential over the last few months. I tried this exfoliator and it is now one of my favourite finds for silky limbs – you know when you use a product and it feels spa-like? I applied this in the shower before I turned the water on, adding in a small amount of water to help massage it in, and my skin felt incredible. I used to always use body scrubs in the shower once the water was on and I now realise the error of my ways. Plus it smells delicious, I felt SO clean afterwards.
My recent Google searches have included a lot of “sore feet pregnancy remedies” and “why do feet hurt during pregnancy” – seriously, it is one of the worst symptoms of the third trimester! They are ON FIRE, even just standing in the shower makes my poor tooties ache for ages afterwards.
I got in to the habit of applying this delicious cooling foot cream in the evenings and it’s really helped, the menthol cools and the cream hydrates so it’s a double whammy of goodness. Highly recommend!
I hadn’t tried much from Dermalogica until recently and now I’m wondering why they’ve never been on my radar before! This hydrating mist is a must have if you’re suffering from super dry skin – sometimes I’ve applied my skincare routine and found that it’s just not quite provided enough relief. A quick spritz of this mist helps to quench parched skin in an instant – I’ll be packing it in my hospital bag for sure!
I actually managed to give this up my entire pregnancy because I read somewhere that it wasn’t pregnancy-safe but the last few weeks have had me slapping it on in desperation. I am pretty much in love with everything Beauty Pie, but this body cream is next level – it sinks in instantly (none of the white cast you get on damp skin), smells delicious and really, truly hydrates parched skin. I have been slathering it on recently and it really has worked wonders!
Mantle The Magic Milk Cleanser
There was so many Mantle products I wanted to include in this post, they’re a brand I discovered earlier this year that have slotted in to my routines so seamlessly as the no-fuss formulas are so easy to love! This cleanser is what I use as my second cleanse, it feels so good to apply and really works to cleanse away impurities while ensuring skin feels nourished.
My complexion always has a happy glow after using this, I really do notice a difference with every application!
So many great products that have absolutely saved me over the last 9 months or so! I wouldn’t have felt like myself without a good bit of pampering, so this is your sign to set aside some time each day to give yourself a quick overhaul.
Have you tried any of these? Any pregnancy essentials that have been saving you?
