A vanity overhaul…
I thought I’d share some photos of my dressing table and makeup collection to go alongside today’s video where I declutter the lot – it took hours and some true life or death decisions went down (not really, but it felt like it.)
I really like my makeup streamlined but it’s so hard when I get so many pretty products sent my way, I could keep them all but it’s totally unnecessary and it makes getting ready in the mornings so hard because there’s too much choice!
I have to be so ruthless otherwise it just piles up, and I purposely don’t keep anymore storage for it so it literally can’t get out of control. Ahh, it’s a hard life.
I have this mesmerising mint green mid-century style dressing table from West Elm, I’ve had it for some time now and I think it’s just the pop of colour my bedroom needs. I deliberated over the colour for a while and when I settled on mint green, I told myself that I could paint it white down the line if ever I felt the pastel tones were a little dated. That’s yet to happen, thankfully!
I paired it with this gorgeous fluffy brass stool and a lovely big round wooden mirror and it’s everything I want from a dressing table – tidy but a feature in the room, and a pretty place to sit whilst I get ready for the day.
Minimal but personalised!
The top of my dressing table looked a bit bare so I added some acrylic drawers and it came together; I love being able to stack my favourite items on top. I end up changing the contents of the drawers often, it’s a really good way to create a sort-of edit of my favourite products.
My palettes are stored in a small brass wire basket on the floor next to my table – not the best solution but there’s quite a few as I find them so hard to part with!
My lipsticks sit in a big set of acrylic drawers on the open shelves to the left, and these are next to be streamlined… my collection is crazy!
It’s never tidy for long…
I don’t actually mind too much if my makeup table gets a little untidy, I always feel dressing tables look best when they’re scattered with a few products! I usually have a few rogue lipsticks and primers strewn across the top, but it only adds to it…
I love my little setup, sitting down to do my makeup is such a nice way to start the day.
What do you think of my makeup table?
