As soon as January is over, I’m counting down the days ‘til spring. I want floral dresses, jeans and my jacket collection on show! Cute sandals, headbands, cat eye sunglasses! I tend to get a little ahead of myself, usually ditching the coat waaay too early and feeling the wrath of Scottish weather!
So this year I’ve really tried to embrace this transitional period, the bridge between winter and spring where my outfits involve lots of layers, and my jacket collection can truly shine! It’s a fun stepping stone to spring, and it gives me a chance to slowly switch out my winter wardrobe for the lighter basics I can introduce now better weather is on the horizon.
I recently went through my closet to see what I was missing, and purchased a few versatile pieces from Very that are perfect for working in to effortless outfits over the coming months. Here’s the picks I think are essential for nailing that awkward mid-season period…
Working In Midi Skirts
Layers are your friend when it comes to ditching the warm winter clothes and introducing midi skirts for the first time in a few months – I love pairing a cute satin midi with a big jumper and an oversized jacket for that polished but undone sort of look.

Trust me when I say an oversized leather jacket will be your BFF over the next few months (and beyond!). Wear it over your comfiest jumper while it’s chilly and pair it with a floaty white midi dress when the weather picks up! Very has a pretty fabulous selection of leather jackets and I found my perfect pick in this Mango Oversized Leather Jacket – I just know it’ll look beaut with an oversized scarf too!
Adding A Hint Of Colour
While I’m not quite ready for pastels just yet, there’s something timeless about rich burnt orange hues, alongside sage and khaki colours. I found this Warehouse Knit Jumper and it’s slotted in to my wardrobe perfect – great with jeans, midi skirts or even with a pair of culottes for an easy everyday look.
The Ultimate Loungewear Set
Of course, some days are meant to be spent inside. I am a loungewear connoisseur, I really do like to find that balance between feeling cosy and looking good – ideally nailing the ‘coastal grandma’ look while lounging around the house.
