You may remember that one of my goals for this year was to upgrade our bedding – I know, aim high right? I always say I love an achievable goal and I may just have outdone myself with this one as I ticked it off the list in early February. She’s girl bossin’ alright!
I spend so much more time in bed in winter, it becomes my sanctuary when the weather is miserable and the nights are chilly. I always aim to get my eight hours (and then some!) so committing to making sleepytime even snoozier seemed like a worthy investment!
We’ve had our bed and mattress for some time now and they’re both still working wonders for us, but our bedding was in dire need of being updated. In fact, I went to see what tog our duvet was and the label had completely worn away. I didn’t think it had been THAT long but I started to count back and… it was sobering.
In the end we pretty much overhauled the entire bedding and bed linen situation and let me tell you, what a game changer it has been! We now sleep on a cloud, my life has improved ten-fold. I sleep like a baby.
Our Bed Frame
We wanted a not-too-low platform bed that we could add a headboard on to, which sounds easier than it actually was. It took me so long to find a good bed frame that wasn’t a few inches off the floor (giving bachelor pad vibes) but in the end my search led me to this one from Loaf. It fits most storage boxes underneath and with our big ol’ mattress on top, it’s a pretty ideal height! I’ve since seen which looks around the same height but a little less bulky.
Our headboard is that we got when we moved in, I love how simple it is – I’ll never not love cane webbing!
The Mattress
We got our mattress moons ago, it was gifted and it’s one of the best mattresses I’ve ever slept on! We have an Emma mattress* in our spare room and I also love that, I would say it’s slightly softer than our Caspar mattress but still feels supportive. It’s hard to compare the two as we’ve only slept in our spare room a couple of times when we didn’t have curtains in our room, but I think if the Emma mattress was a king to fit our bed, I might consider swapping them. Realistically though, they’re both very comfy mattresses and I don’t think I could tell them apart if my life depended on it.
…And The All Important Mattress Topper
In the big old bed upgrade, I decided to get a new mattress topper and let me tell you, this has by far been the best decision I’ve made this year. It completely elevated our bed and made the biggest change (along with our delicious new duvet) to the entire set-up. We got this one from Dusk, it’s synthetic but feels like down apparently, and really has made our bed feel like it belongs in a hotel.
I had which has more/better reviews but it was sold out by the time I came to order so I went with the Dusk version but they look to be pretty similar.
Good Quality Pillows
We’re a synthetic pillow family, no feathers here! Mainly because Jord’s allergic. The Bedfolk team kindly got in touch to help with my hotel-bed-mission so most of our bedding is from them. I once asked my facialist what linen bedding she uses on the bed in her treatment room (listen, it’s very comfy bedding and she said everyone asks so it’s not too weird, alright?) and when she said it was all , I made a mental note to stock up.
We got * in medium/soft and medium/hard, as well as two of – I love having square pillows on the bed for extra propping while I drink my coffee in the morning! Plus it’s additions like this that totally elevate your bed!
On To The Bedding
As I said, our duvet could have been donated to the Natural History Museum so we had to upgrade! We went for the * in the sexy 13.5tog (because… Scotland) and it was an excellent decision. As soon as it arrived, packaged beautifully in a drawstring bag, I knew we had done a good thing. A marvellous thing, even.
The square quilted design means the filling always stays evenly spread, and the lightweight but fluffy feel of the duvet means we’re just the right temperature at night. I’m really, truly so impressed with this duvet so if you’re on the look out, I can vouch that this is a good ‘un.
We also got the * in white, and the buttery soft linen is just the dreamiest cloud-like feeling! After washing it feels quite sturdy and fresh, and then it gets softer the more you snooze in it, until it’s time to pop it in the wash again. Heaven! I have never felt so pampered.
Our Colourful Quilt
Of course, I always get a million questions about on the end of our bed. It’s from Projektityyny, a lovely small biz based down south that I have loved for a long time. It’s pricey but so worth it for the handmade creation – my mum made quilts when we were small and I always get reminded of her when I see this, it’s absolutely something she would have made so it feels super special to me.
The All Essential Extras
I’m never without a few luxury extras to spruce up my sleepy sitch – I love a pillow spray for creating a super calming atmosphere, and the is my absolute fave! It freshens up bedding and smells delish!
We also love for making mornings a little more bearable. We set the sunrise alarm every morning for a more gentle awakening. Highly recommend!
My mission to a dreamy hotel bed is complete! Are you currently thinking about making your bedding a little more snuggly?
