The details…
I’m an accessories kinda girl, and I think that’s probably because I’m pretty laidback when it comes to my outfits! I have a terrible habit of throwing on knitwear and jeans September through March and I balance this out with gold details, wool hats and colourful berets, pearl hairclips and layered necklaces. It makes it seem like I’ve at least made some effort…
There’s something about winter and Christmas coming together that makes it a-okay to go a bit overboard with the details. Suddenly it’s acceptable to layer up sparkly hair slides, big headbands and hooped earrings all at once. It’s almost expected of you.
So with that in mind, here’s my rather festive roundup of my most worn accessories…
Let’s Start With The Jewels
I’ve said before that I only ever wear gold jewellery, I read that it’s to do with having a warm complexion. The jewellery I wear is also always very dainty, lots of pretty pendants and choker necklaces, huggie hoop earrings and minimal studs. I have a fair bit of everyday jewellery and I tend to wear the same pieces on rotation.
A lot of my everyday faves are from Rock N Rose, they offer the most beautiful vintage and timeless pieces. You’ll find me wearing their Bette* and Miriam* necklaces often, as well as these Etta earrings. They’re my go-to’s and I rarely travel without them because they go with everything.
In terms of other daily jewellery, I wear this pearl cuff all the time, as well as this crystal barbell stud* at the top of my ear.
I’m also a big fan of huggie hoops earrings because I’ve got quite a few lobe piercings, and I love mixing and matching in each ear. I worked with Olivia Burton recently for their House of Huggies campaign and ever since I’ve been wearing these dainty gold huggie hoops*. I just love the different combinations you can create!
On To The Handbags…
Handbags will always be the ultimate accessory for me, I never feel like my outfit is complete until I’ve chosen my bag to go with it. This year I was gifted a beautiful Mansur Gavriel Mini Bucket Bag* in Tan and I felt like all my dreams had come true, they’re one of my favourite designers and I’ve been smitten with it ever since!
In keeping with the tan theme, I just treated myself to a Chloe Mini C bag in a lovely Autumn shade for my birthday. It’s such a dreamy design with the mix of smooth and croc-effect leather – you can guarantee to see a lot of this over the next few months!
Hair Accessories, Hats & Headbands
This has been the year of the hair clip, so obviously I had to get involved. Such a simple way to look a bit more ‘put together’, not to mention disguise less-than-clean hair. I’ve been wearing this pearl set from Oliver Bonas a lot, I just slide one in to my hair after I’ve curled it – although I haven’t been brave enough to wear the two clips together yet, that might be a little OTT even for me…
It’s had a bit of a mixed reaction, but I’ve totally embraced the padded headband trend. My most worn shade of my mini collection is definitely this lovely soft gold. I feel like a wee angel when I wear it.
I either wear them by pushing my hair back away from my face, or I’ll pull a small section of hair out at the front to make it look a bit more relaxed. Both ways look lovely and suit everyone.
While berets have always been my staple hat of choice, this year I went rogue and added a simple wool fedora in to the mix. I’ve barely had this hat off since I got it, and it’s travelled with me to Jamaica, New Zealand and even France twice! It looks as good on the beach as it does in the chilly Glasgow winters. Oh and if you’re planning on splurging, I measured my head (53cm FYI) before I purchased it from Lack Of Colour and ended up just getting the smallest size and then purchased hat resizers to go inside. It was so easy and there were no customs fees my end either.
The Winter Staples
For my birthday a few years ago, Jordan bought me a beautiful pink Acne Studios scarf and it’s still one of my most loved possessions! It’s such incredible quality and it feels so luxurious throughout winter, it really is worth every penny. I’ve been eyeing up the camel version too… hint hint Jordie.
I just bought this lovely fluffy scarf from ASOS and I feel like it’s the piece my wardrobe has been missing. It’s huge, ultra soft and cosy and it looks great with all my jumper and jeans outfits.
So, as you can see I’m a bit of a fiend for accessories at this time of year! I love that basically anything goes, especially sparkles on sparkles and fabulously cosy additions like blanket scarves and berets.
