Glowy skin for winter…
While I’m not one to overhaul myself for the new year, I do tend to give my makeup routine a switch up to make way for winter – I find my complexion around this time of year really takes a beating. My skin right now is pale, dull and even a little grey (yikes!)… I need a pretty solid line-up to see me through!
On top of that, I find January such a long, exhausting month so my routines usually take a back-seat out of sheer laziness. I need products that will perk me up without much effort from me; a foundation that packs a punch, a bronzer that rivals my summer glow and a faux flush that will make me look even remotely alive!
Let me introduce my go-to products for giving January skin an overhaul…
Dewy Skin
If January isn’t bad enough with the post-Christmas come down and seriously freezing temps, my skin is having some sort of seasonal meltdown too (could be all the booze, but let’s blame the weather…)
Although it’s probably the clearest it’s been since my teens, there’s literally zero glow to it – I need a lot of help in the radiance dept. right now.
I’ve been using my trusty Clinique Even Better Glow foundation in the hopes of injecting a bit of dewy-ness, and it’s been doing my complexion one hell of a favour. This is a foundation I always seem to come back to because it’s such a ‘do all’ kinda product.
Even More Radiance
I never, ever skip highlighter, even on my most minimal days! Lately I’ve been preferring an illuminating powder for added glow, as opposed to a cream which I usually favour. I adore the Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold Trio, the shimmer is so fine that it gives such a beautiful radiance to the skin – and I love that you can tailor a glow from the three shades to suit your look.
I’ve also revisited the much loved YSL Touche Eclat in a bid to disguise my sallow complexion, I usually sweep a small amount of this under my eye area and down my nose and quickly blend to revive my tired skin – it really is a cult product for a reason.
For The Flush
Cream blushers are my absolute wonder product at this time of year, I find they’re the ultimate product for adding a healthy glow. I’ve been loving this Wander Beauty On The Glow Blush and Illuminator dotted high on the cheeks, it’s the perfect pink for healthy skin.
Extra Warmth
I haven’t seen the sun since September, so bronzer is an essential step of my routine at the moment! I feel like I should be sweeping it on with a broom. I’m all about the Benefit Hoola bronzer, just a quick dusting around my hairline, temples and under my cheekbones lifts my complexion so much.

A Quick Fix For Eyes
I’m probably the most low maintenance when it comes to my eyes – I like defined brows and big lashes (although a little sparkle never goes amiss), but that’s really about it.
I’ve got a really good thing going with my brows at the moment, thanks to my wonderful brow girl (I highly recommend Taffy if you’re Glasgow based!) so for the first time ever I’m able to get away with just a sweep of the Benefit Gimme Brow gel. I love that this adds a bit of volume too, it’s a great all-rounder.
After that I sweep on the Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara for lots of lash volume, and then follow it up with a creamy eyeshadow pencil on my lower lash line. I find this is perfect for an effortless look, it adds a tiny bit of definition and takes just seconds.
If you haven’t already tried the Bobbi Brown Creamy Shadow Sticks, take it from me – they are everything! I love every shade I’ve come across, although Sunlight Gold is a favourite.
Effortless makeup at its best! I tend to come back to these sorts of radiance-boosting, complexion-warming products because they really work to give skin a bit of life… which is definitely needed come winter!
Have you tried any of these?
