2018 Goals.

Here’s to a new year…

Two thousand and eighteen! Twenty eighteen… can you believe it? I feel like the last few months of 2017 just flew by, and here we are in a brand new year!

Last year I had a seriously good year, maybe even one of my best yet. I think part of the reason why is because, for the first time in my life, I set myself goals. I worked towards something, and even though I probably didn’t achieve everything on my list, I think I actually ticked off more by being a little too optimistic.

So, with that in mind, this year I’m aiming even higher! I set myself a few long term goals to go alongside the yearly goals, so hopefully I can take some small steps toward a bigger picture too.

Continue with bullet journalling

Last year I started bullet journaling and fell in love, despite never being much of a journal person before. I feel like it took me a whole year to get the hang of it, and looking back on my scribbles I realise that I wish I had committed to it a lot more.
Now I’m on to my second journal, I can assess what I loved and what I didn’t – it’s been a bit of a journal journey! I’ve already got through a lot of the pages, so I’m excited to get to work as of today…

Spend more time at home

This is pretty much the opposite of last years goals, but I feel like we lived out our travelling dreams last year so we could settle down and work on the shop. As much as I love travelling, I also love being at home – I’m a true homebody at heart, and I feel more settled when I’m in Glasgow.
Of course, I’ve already got a few trips lined up – but I think overall I’ll be at home a lot more than the last few years!

Commit to another project

This past year we’ve spent a lot of time working on the coffee shop, and it’s been so fun to have another project on the go. It’s fun to have a side hustle, and it’s made me even more productive too!
I’m wondering where I could go from here – I’ve been tinkering away on InDesign, but I’m not sure if I’ll see that come to anything (although it’s so much fun to plan and dream!) and I’d love to create a line of homeware – the pieces I’d love to have in my home but I can’t find in a shop. How incredible would that be? It’s good to have something else to plan and work towards, it makes my everyday more creative and purposeful!

 Take more photos

Looking through my phone, I feel like a lot of the photos I take are taken to post online. I never really just have photos of the moment for myself, if that makes sense. This year I really want to snap more photos just to have. The ultimate dream would be to have a physical photo album like the good old days, but I’m not sure how I’ll get on with that!

Microblade my brows

I’ve been thinking about doing this for so long, and I feel like this may be the year I finally commit. It would save me so much time and effort to get my brows shaped, but I’m terrified of them going wrong! Much research is needed first…

Book a honeymoon!

Although I want to travel less this year, I would love to plan a tropical paradise getaway for our honeymoon. We never went on a honeymoon because we had a minimoon in New York, but we always said we would book something for our 1st anniversary, and I wanna go big! Somewhere beautiful that I’ve never experienced… Bali would be the dream!

Do more/rest more

I feel like I spend every waking minute on my phone sometimes, and it’s not always worthwhile. Those long unproductive scrolls of Instagram when I should be sleeping, and scrolling Twitter or ASOS when I should just take the time to write a blog post.
This year, I’m going to work when I need to, and spend less time scrolling through Instagram when I shouldn’t be – if it’s not during work hours, it’s time to chill!

Hire a photographer

Up until we started working on the coffee shop, Jordan had more time to help me with photos and admin, so now I’ll need to replace him! I’m hoping 2018 is the year I hire a photographer or assistant so I can do more and create better posts and videos! I’m not great at delegating and usually have such a vision of what I want, so it can be difficult to let go, but I’m hopeful this is the year I up my game.

2017 was such a good year, I worked hard and became much more consistent with my posting, so I’m really hoping this year is the year I do even more!
Have you thought about your goals for the year ahead?

  • The do more/rest more goal sounds like a really good one. I find myself thinking I am doing a lot but so often it is just pointless procrastination of scrolling. In 2018 I am hoping that if I am doing that scrolling on Instagram etc I pause to reflect on people’s images more and take the time to comment on them instead of just giving them a heart.

    • That’s such a good thought Danielle! I’m going to try and aim to do that too! I don’t really tend to think about all the planning and practise that have gone into peoples Instagram pics and I think it will be so lovely to enjoy them more rather than like and scroll past 🙂 Xx

  • Kate I loved this post! I’ve really lost my blogging mojo recently and happiness and peace after having to halt everything for uni but your post has really inspired me and given me a spark of positivity! Congratulations on the coffee shop too; it looks bloody gorgeous! I’ve always dreamed of having a little cafe and thought it was way out of reality but maybe, just maybe, in the future my little dream could be a reality? 🙂 Xx

I’d also really like to get someone to help me take photos xx

  • I really want to go Bali! I definitely agree with taking more photos, thats why I’m also going to try and start this one second a day film to encourage me to look at the little things more!

  • I love the fact that you told everyone about your goals on your blog, it gives us inspiration as well. I would love a 6 month update as well to see how you’re doing and what you think you could tweak even more to achieve your goals (of course just a suggestion) 🙂

  • I absolutely loved reading this, Bali would make for a dream honeymoon, that’s a place I’d love to visit too. I definitely need to learn to scroll less too.

We are honeymooning in Bali this summer, I can’t wait, it looks like it’s going to be incredible. We did a LOT of research and found that booking everything ourselves and really hunting around far in advance gave us some amazing deals. We’re flying business class for the same price as premium economy, got a 5* hotel for half price with a honeymoon package included (massages, meals, all the fancy extras) and upgraded to the luxurious villa suites in our other hotel, all just because we booked in advance and didn’t go via a middle man. Good luck with planning yours! x

I recently started bullet journaling and I love it! My goals this year include buying more art, taking more pictures, and putting a lot of effort into growing my writing/publishing house.

  • This sounds sooo good! I hope you can go to Bali and accomplish all those amazing goals 🙂

  • These all sound like amazing goals to have Kate. Wishing you all the best for 2018 & fingers crossed you get to Bali. It looks incredible!!

  • You should do a post on the coffee shop or is it a webshop? Either way, I’d love to see how it came out to be.

  • I just started bullet journaling! I can’t wait to figure out what works for me (and try my hand at some typography). I’ve always been a journaler, but this is my first time doing more of a formatted endeavor. I’m planning on doing a post at the end of January to see how a month goes.

The rest of your goals sound wonderful Kate! A good mix of broader resolutions and specific, attainable tasks. Here’s to a happy and healthy new year! (and if you want to take a peek, I’ve posted my own resolutions here )

  • I love this blog post idea! I’ve just written my own 2018 goals and will post it soon. Meanwhile I’ve just uploaded a ‘Dear 2017’ post on my blog. 🙂

  • I definitely think you should explore the homeware project, we would all support you as you have so many faithful followers who love your style. I had microblading this year and it was amazing!!! Nothing to be afraid of, promise!! I vlogged the process over on my channel if you wanted to put your mind at ease 🙂 xxx

  • Reading all of these 2018 goals posts is really inspiring me to set my own goals for the year. 2017 was a year where I felt just a little lost, so I could do with laying out some solid aims! Good luck with yours!

  • I have absolutely loved the images off your bullet journal Kate – hope you share more in 2018!

In 2017 I replaced my DSLR with a film camera, and every time I wanted to photograph anything I used it. It took some adjusting, as I was so used to seeing the picture as soon as I took it and edit it, but it was worth it as I now have an album with all the photographs from my travels this last year. If I need a photograph for social media, I use my iPhone, and for everything else I always have my Olympus and extra film in my bag! 🙂 Happy New Year!

  • This is so inspiring! I’m looking forward to what 2018 brings…
My focus goal for 2018 is to spend more time looking after myself, whether it be having more regular baths (hello LUSH haul! 🙂 ), finally getting around to reading more books, going for a walk in nature, etc… fingers crossed!

Wishing you a wonderful 2018! I’m excited to see what you create!

It all sounds amazing Kate! And I will definitely buy any book or home wares you do! That would be awesome 😍🙌🏼
I think you may decide not to go for microblading once you know everything involved plus in my opinion your eyebrows are gorgeous and you are so young don’t need to do that you beauty! I also think the Frenchie in you will keep it all a la naturel and skip this (the microblading) 😉💖😘😘😘

  • Omg I am waiting (rather impatiently!) for the day that you bring out a line of homeware! I’m sure it would sell out in seconds! I can’t wait to see what you get up to in 2018.

  • Gorgeous goals!! And good luck achieving them hun 🍀

I love setting goals (not resolutions they are made to be broken) and cheers to a great 2018

  • It’s always good to have another pair of hands to help I think, even if to bounce ideas off one another! And I’m with you on doing more/doing less, completely understand the feeling.
