Here’s to a new year…
Two thousand and eighteen! Twenty eighteen… can you believe it? I feel like the last few months of 2017 just flew by, and here we are in a brand new year!
Last year I had a seriously good year, maybe even one of my best yet. I think part of the reason why is because, for the first time in my life, I set myself goals. I worked towards something, and even though I probably didn’t achieve everything on my list, I think I actually ticked off more by being a little too optimistic.
So, with that in mind, this year I’m aiming even higher! I set myself a few long term goals to go alongside the yearly goals, so hopefully I can take some small steps toward a bigger picture too.
Continue with bullet journalling
Last year I started bullet journaling and fell in love, despite never being much of a journal person before. I feel like it took me a whole year to get the hang of it, and looking back on my scribbles I realise that I wish I had committed to it a lot more.
Now I’m on to my second journal, I can assess what I loved and what I didn’t – it’s been a bit of a journal journey! I’ve already got through a lot of the pages, so I’m excited to get to work as of today…
Spend more time at home
This is pretty much the opposite of last years goals, but I feel like we lived out our travelling dreams last year so we could settle down and work on the shop. As much as I love travelling, I also love being at home – I’m a true homebody at heart, and I feel more settled when I’m in Glasgow.
Of course, I’ve already got a few trips lined up – but I think overall I’ll be at home a lot more than the last few years!
Commit to another project
This past year we’ve spent a lot of time working on the coffee shop, and it’s been so fun to have another project on the go. It’s fun to have a side hustle, and it’s made me even more productive too!
I’m wondering where I could go from here – I’ve been tinkering away on InDesign, but I’m not sure if I’ll see that come to anything (although it’s so much fun to plan and dream!) and I’d love to create a line of homeware – the pieces I’d love to have in my home but I can’t find in a shop. How incredible would that be? It’s good to have something else to plan and work towards, it makes my everyday more creative and purposeful!
Take more photos
Looking through my phone, I feel like a lot of the photos I take are taken to post online. I never really just have photos of the moment for myself, if that makes sense. This year I really want to snap more photos just to have. The ultimate dream would be to have a physical photo album like the good old days, but I’m not sure how I’ll get on with that!
Microblade my brows
I’ve been thinking about doing this for so long, and I feel like this may be the year I finally commit. It would save me so much time and effort to get my brows shaped, but I’m terrified of them going wrong! Much research is needed first…
Book a honeymoon!
Although I want to travel less this year, I would love to plan a tropical paradise getaway for our honeymoon. We never went on a honeymoon because we had a minimoon in New York, but we always said we would book something for our 1st anniversary, and I wanna go big! Somewhere beautiful that I’ve never experienced… Bali would be the dream!
Do more/rest more
I feel like I spend every waking minute on my phone sometimes, and it’s not always worthwhile. Those long unproductive scrolls of Instagram when I should be sleeping, and scrolling Twitter or ASOS when I should just take the time to write a blog post.
This year, I’m going to work when I need to, and spend less time scrolling through Instagram when I shouldn’t be – if it’s not during work hours, it’s time to chill!
Hire a photographer
Up until we started working on the coffee shop, Jordan had more time to help me with photos and admin, so now I’ll need to replace him! I’m hoping 2018 is the year I hire a photographer or assistant so I can do more and create better posts and videos! I’m not great at delegating and usually have such a vision of what I want, so it can be difficult to let go, but I’m hopeful this is the year I up my game.
2017 was such a good year, I worked hard and became much more consistent with my posting, so I’m really hoping this year is the year I do even more!
Have you thought about your goals for the year ahead?
