September Goals.

Fun fact: when I was getting ready to write up this post, I titled it ‘July Goals’ so that’s where I’m at at the moment. Two months behind.
Anyway, I’ve quite the scoop for you all this month. Are you ready to read my life story? Good.

01. So this summer, the craziest thing happened. I signed to Storm Vision! Eep. I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed with work as I’ve always done everything by myself – from planning to emails and contracts, writing, editing, invoicing and all the other fun behind the scenes stuff, I often felt that I spread myself so thin. It didn’t leave much time for actually blogging/vlogging either, so I hope that handing over some of the admin work will really help me to concentrate on the good stuff.
This won’t change much for you guys – except hopefully my content will improve – but I thought I’d fill you all in on my good news anyway!

02. I’ve been feeling a bit blah lately, my skin isn’t great and my hormones are just plain CRAZY. I’ve always struggled with my hormones, I feel like I get three bad weeks and one okay week out of the month – with anxiety, mood swings and acne looming over me. Like, not even chocolate can help me.
My periods are also seriously debilitating (TMI soz huns), which isn’t ideal if I’ve committed to trips and deadlines!
I’ve decided to go back on the pill to help even things out, although in the past it’s given me moderate depression so it’s not a decision I’ve taken lightly!
I’ve opted for a low-dose pill this time so here’s hoping it will help me to feel a little more normal. I never really speak about this sort of thing, and I guess I share a very polished version of my life but I definitely have days where my mood gets the best of me!
I’m actually thinking of keeping a journal over the next few months so I can be more aware of myself, so I’ll keep you posted on that and whether it’s working any magic.

I feel like I have a lot more to say on this topic so I’ll see if I can film a life/confidence/post-roaccutane update this weekend for you all!

03. This month is the first month we’ve made some actual progress towards the coffee shop! This has been Jordan’s dream for a while now but it’s one looong process. I’m doing bits here and there (like buying a second-hand mint Smeg after a few drinks, thanks Gumtree) but I’m leaving most of it up to Jordie because it’s his baby.
Hopefully we’ll have some more news for you in a couple of months, but all I’m saying is… I’m doing the interiors and it’s going to be GORGE. You will deeeefinitely want to come and Instagram it, so get a trip to Glasgow booked pronto.

04. Our big US trip is coming up this month, I booked this as a surprise for Jordan’s 30th (wow) so long ago – I think even before we eloped and had to go to New Zealand (and LA!), so now I’m feeling a little… oh, am I ready to leave the country again?
I’ve done SO many long-haul trips this year (including New Zealand twice!) but we’re thinking of this one as research for the shop – we’re going to San Francisco, Vegas, Portland and Seattle and the last two are well known for their love of coffee.
It’ll also be our last big trip together for a while if the coffee shop takes off, so although I’m a bit stressed about going away again, I think I’ll love every minute of it.

05. My only other exciting trip this month is with Jo Malone, which involves a helicopter. I’ve never been in a helicopter before. My mum tells me that I got the chance when I was little because someone landed in our garden on the farm in New Zealand but I was too busy running around naked. Interesting.
Anyway, I’m sure you’ll see all the photos from that over on Instagram – and I’ll hopefully be back in my vlogging zone by then too!

Quite the month for me! What’s new with you guys?

  • Sounds exciting! I moved at the end of July so have been so MIA online with cleaning and decorating, and the summer holidays always leave my blog on the back burner. Looking forward to getting back into blogging, and generally interacting more online, when my daughter starts school on Monday. It’s her first ever year at school so that’s super exciting in itself!

  • Sounds like a lot is happening! I have just gone back onto the pill for the first time in years because of exactly what you described. I’m almost at the end of my first month and my skin has improved drastically AND I only had a few days of super bad moods. It may be a fluke but I’m hoping it continues to help me. Good luck!

  • Gosh, I wish I live in Glasgow! Caffeine is my best friend and your impeccable styling will make the place really swoon-worthy.

I’m so excited for you to go to Seattle, I miss my home so much! If you’re able to drift out of Seattle and do some exploring, my favorite coffee shop in the world is Whidbey Coffee on Whidbey Island! The island itself is beautiful and the coffee and atmosphere is yummm. I hope you have a great September!

  • So excited that you’r’e getting somewhere with your Coffee Shop. I’m going to have to convince my family and parents to go up to Glasglow just so that I can visit your shop when it opens!!

    Love Somachi xx

  • This seems all so exciting! I can’t wait to see how the coffee shop will turn out, I imagine the interiors will be spot on since you always have elegant and beautiful choices when it comes to decor! I hope you do better with the pill this time, it’s terrible the effect it had on you previously but it’s also so not great when our hormones are going crazy, I hope it gets better! Xx

As someone who basically just loves you and your blog and as a resident of Portland, I am so excited that you’re coming here! You will want to check out Good Coffee and Prince coffee – good interiors, lots of plants.

  • Riley Stewart

Vegas is just so much fun and you will love Seattle and Portland I am sure of it, both are coffee heaven central. If you go to Pionner square in Seattle make sure you go to London Plane it is just lovely.

  • I feel a bit blah here too – can’t pit my finger on why though!

Really love your goal posts. It is so interesting to hear what you are getting up to.
It sounds like a busy time and I really hope the pill helps you out. At least you are aware of where you’re at and how it had made you feel before.

  • Hope you are feeling a bit better soon! πŸ™‚ the idea with the coffee shop sounds amazing, I’ll definitely will stop by for a coffee (or 5 tbh). September is my birthday month, so I got a bit of party planning going on at the moment, as I’m turning 25 in a couple of days. Also I might go to Edinburgh for a couple of days just before uni starts here in October im Germany, but we’ll see πŸ™‚

    Have a great weekend! x

It seems like you got lots of interesting things on your plate! I liked how this format of goal post was a little different from all the others.

I’m so excited to see your blog posts from San Francisco and Vegas! We are planning our honeymoon at the moment which is going to be a road trip around California starting in San Fran and ending in Vegas so I’m on the look out for any recommendations. I think I’m more excited about this than the wedding at the moment…

Great post, as always and good luck with the coffee shop!

  • Periods shouldn’t be tmi at all! They’re a natural occurrence and shouldn’t be shamed πŸ˜‰ Can you come over to my future home and decorate the interiors? Yours are always so bomb!

  • Those are some perfect places you have selected for your trip to the US!! Portland/Seattle will be absolutely gorgeous as Fall kicks in – hopefully all the foliage will start changing colors. Can’t wait to see snippets of everything as the PNW has some gorrrgeous views and AMAZING coffee. Please please please go to Pip’s Original Doughnut when you’re in Portland – gooood drinks + donuts (of course)! πŸ™‚

I live in Seattle, you should totally do a meet up because you’re basically my spirit animal and we need to be BFF’s. Anyway, I have some great coffee shop recommendations for you: Storyville in Pike Place market is probably my fav and is so adorable as well. And you can also be touristy and visit the very first Starbucks in the market πŸ™‚ One more so I don’t bore you, Espresso Vivace revolutionized coffee in Seattle and the founder was one of the first people to start doing latte art! I’m still trying to take in the fact that it’s already September. September is one of my favorite months, and not just because its my birth month πŸ˜‰

This month is going to be filled with lots of exciting stuff.

  • Congrats on signing to Storm & also on the coffee shop! I will be visiting Glasgow as soon as you guys open! Also – I had a similar situation with periods. I used to get really bad periods and got put on the pill, but I reacted really badly to it. So I switched to the contraceptive injection a few years ago and it’s the only thing that has ever worked for me! I don’t get any periods now and only have to remember to get the injection every 3 months. If the pill doesn’t work out for you, it might be worth looking into!

  • Oh San Francisco…!!! The city of endless inspiration! You will love love love exploring San Fran while unfolding the vision for this incredible coffee shop in the making. Recently my husband and I stayed at Hotel Drisco in the Pacific Heights district. I cannot recommend it enough!! Glorious in so many ways… heated bathroom floors, quiet with stunning cityscape views, evening wine and delicious snacks, fabulous breakfast spread (seriously!), endless glass bottled water in your room (at NO EXTRA COST! Why should this have to be something we get so excited about in the city??!!!). Take a leisurely walk around the elegant neighborhood and through the Presidio (I’m pretty sure those homes are tens of millions of dollars and SO lovely – Instagram heaven)! Be sure to check out the glam local coffee shops, Jane and Wrecking Ball at the top of the list. Oh! And just because, you guys must hit up the famous Buena Vista Cafe for a few rounds of the perfect Irish coffee (best enjoyed as a night cap after a heavily delicious dinner). Sorry for being so bossy, but you really must do this! I’d be more than happy to be your personal guide, just say the word πŸ™‚

Hi, Kate, I’ve struggled a lot with my skin. I definitely recommend Skinceuticals Blemish and Age defense serum. Pricey but I use it as a spot treatment as soon as I feel anything coming on. It has been the best at minimizing the impact of big spots, and I have tried a lot. Also, I have found Zelens power a gentle enough to use daily (4 drops only) and my skin has really improved. Just my 2 cents from a fellow struggler!

  • Kathleen McWilliams

Great news! Just got back from Glasgow and ready to book my next trip to see the coffee shop!
