Committing To Beauty Routines.

While I would never, ever forego double cleansing *gasp*, or even think about skipping out my morning SPF application, there’s a few steps in my beauty routines that I really get lazy about.
We’re talking regular cuticle oil applications (ughhh, so boring but SO necessary) and perhaps leaving a hair mask on for more than 30 seconds. I’m terrible, Muriel.

Anyway, as I get older (actual sob) I’m definitely committing to my beauty routines a whole lot better. Admittedly, I’m motivated by fear a lot of the time but it seems to be working for me.

Here’s a little rundown of the promises I’ve made myself. Future Kate is going to be looking mighty fine…

For the last few months, I’ve applied body lotion almost every single day – as soon as I’m out of the shower. Maybe this is a no-brainer to some, but I used to be horrendous at moisturising my limbs. At one point I was part reptile.
I’m also making a promise to slather myself in oil more often – hair oil, face oil, cuticle oil, you name it, it’s going on.

What I’m about to say may shock you… I’m terrible at remembering eye cream! I KNOW, I’m freakin’ twenty six and a half. I’m actually a lot better these days, but I still don’t do it daily. That’s something that needs to change pretty sharpish!

My skin is forever dehydrated, so I want to make sure I use an overnight moisture mask a few times a week – they make such a difference, but for some reason I rarely remember to fish one out to slap on.

I also think I could look after my hair a whole lot better – purple shampoo, hydrating masks, volumising treatments… all on my list. I think I could definitely wash my hair a lot less if I looked after it better and put a little more effort in to blowdrying it properly!

Other steps like a quick foot cream application wouldn’t go amiss, and then there’s exfoliating my limbs in the shower. Yup, this is why I don’t call myself a beauty blogger.

In terms of not-so-regular but still-very-important steps, I’d definitely like to get a facial every now and again. I think I’ve had about three in my entire life, and I think I’d really benefit from a nice hydrating face pamper once a month or so.
My usual routines are a bit slap dash, so having someone dedicated to looking after my skin would be a dream come true for my complexion!

Alongside these, I’m also making a point to make sure my brows and nails are on point too. I always feel incredible when my brows are tinted and waxed to perfection, it just changes my whole face. I must admit though, the actual trek in to the salon and giving up a morning to get them done isn’t ideal, but it’s so worth it.

Do you fall behind with your beauty routines? What steps would you like to be better at?

  • Lovely products and a really good blogpost 🙂
    Thanks for sharing ♥

I have to daily moisturise my whole body otherwise I’m like a walking crisp ? Hate getting older! (29 – haha blates not old but hey)

  • I think I’m really good at all of the basics but I’m terrible at doing face masks, hair masks etc – I just never get round to it anymore! x

  • I’m just the same, I’m really motivated by fear sometimes and I also want to get a facial more regularly! Lovely post 🙂

  • You are seriously hilarious! I couldn’t hold it in when I read “part reptile”. I so agree with you btw. I especially need to take moisturizing my body seriously. It’s never been my thing since I was a child but my skin definitely needs more moisture these days!
And I need a facial! Never had one and I’m getting quite close to 30. So yeah, need to get on that!

  • Moisturizing my entire body is something that I almost never do! I have moved my moisturizer to the washroom instead of my bedroom which does help out!

    Such a helpful post!

I’m terrible at moisturizing my body daily. I’ve become a lot better at it but I still get those lazy days that as soon as I climb out of the bath I want to run to bed and sleep ahaha. I’ve added applying oil to my body too and I love how hydrated and glowy it makes my skin (and tattoos) look.

Great post! Definitely going to try to set some routines down this week! Thank you for the push in the right direction.

  • Committing with beauty routines or any kind of routine is something I find quite hard. I think that having at least a morning routine is very important. This post really inspired me to really work on it. xx

  • I have to admit, I am one lazy gal when it comes to beauty routines. I really need to do better with my skincare – I have so many products but I just always forget/cba doing my routine at night. It’s terrible, I know!

  • I admit, I’m pretty horrible at remembering eye cream too! 🙁 Hahaha I’ve really been making more of an effort lately because I’ve noticed some super fine lines that don’t go away, so I have no choice but to take better care of the area! Thankful for this little reminder post – I definitely need to commit to my beauty routines! 🙂

    XO, Elizabeth

  • I’m still not in the habit of applying body lotion, thanks for the reminder~

the thought of putting on body lotion before putting on jeans in the winter gives the the heebie geebies.. I have no time to let it dry… hmmm

  • a daily skincare routine is what i need. i can’t imagine not using a serum and double cleanse anymore. as for monthly routines, i love getting my nails done. so basic but its actually so lovely and makes me feel so good about myself.

  • I always forget to wear face masks even though I have a few, I need to make it a priority.

  • Love this post! I need to make more of an effort to use face masks, I have so many sitting around! x

  • It’s such effort being a girl! Especially when you love skin care and makeup.

I’m not the best at the double cleanse, and the whole nail routine is something I’m terrible at. Your routine seems so well thought out, especially skin care so it’s pretty interesting to hear you’re not as consistent with everything. There’s hope for the rest of us!

  • Haha! I am terrible at sticking to my beauty routines! I’ll go through phases of being quite good at either morning skincare or evening skincare, but can never seem to get both of them spot on at the same time. Ooops! Must make more of an effort to make it a priority.

  • Hahaha I am with you on so much of this – and I definitely think I am part reptile so I neeeeed to be better about applying cream after getting out of the shower. I just turned 26 and I’m pretty sure old me is already yelling at young me for not being better about that. I think having one item out at a time to meet these needs helps a lot – because if it’s hidden away I’ll never remember to use it. I started doing bullet journaling and did a little daily task box and it included using nail oil, face masks, lotioning my body, etc. and it helped sooo much – partially cause I wanted to make sure all the boxes were ticked off!

  • I love ❤️ the idea of putting moisturizer on after a shower ?it helps maintain the softness of the skin a little longer. 🙂

  • I never used to bother with body lotion because it was just too time consuming, plus here in Australia you may as well forget about it in summer because it’ll just melt right off! BUT I have been doing so much better the last two years (minus some seriously hot summer days) and I’ve been moisturising after pretty much every shower!

  • I’m soooo bad at moisturising after a shower, if this were Drag Race RuPaul would call me ashy knees!! I definitely should get facials and extractions monthyl too, good for a relax and keeping those pores clean.

  • I SUCK at moisturizing, too. It’s just so bloomin’ hot here in the Deep South that I just… ugh, I don’t want to be bothered with lotion.

  • I need to write a post like this to make myself more accountable to doing self-care days, which include doing my nails and grooming my brows! I’d love to start getting facials too! That would be ideal.

I definitely need to moisturise more. My skin is so dry. I’ve made a solid effort to up my skincare game but definitely neglecting my body at the moment. Loved reading this!

I’m staring to feel painfully aware at how terrible my beauty routine is!
