My lipstick collection has been spiralling out of control in the last six months or so, with boxes and boxes of lipsticks waiting to be sorted through, and entire drawers spilling over with creams and liquids and matte formulas. It was both absolutely mesmerising and entirely stressful.
I finally had to have a proper clear out recently after shaking up my makeup storage, and I allowed myself only a set of MUJI acrylic drawers. I know, a real tragedy.
I was actually quite ruthless when it came to decluttering, I definitely got rid of more than half of my collection – much to the dismay of my Instagram followers who were watching me declutter through Instagram Stories.
For those that asked, the unusable ones went in the bin, and the unopened lot went to friends or charity. I’m quite a good declutterer (that’s a thing).
I kept a five drawer set of MUJI drawers just for my lipsticks, and one other single drawer for my MAC collection and a few other favourites – so six in total, and I had no issues filling these.
I reserved a drawer for lip pencils and sticks – I adore the Revlon Matte Balms and the , so these were piled in the top drawer. I actually ended up getting rid of so many of the NARS pencils that I had and didn’t use. When I’m decluttering, I always tell myself that I’m making room for more products I actually love – it softens the blow.

I love matte lipsticks, especially bright hues, so the next drawer is filled with the and the new . I got the full shade range of both of these collections, so I managed to narrow down my stash so it includes only colours I know I’ll wear!
Next up, possibly my favourite drawer – lip creams! I have quite a few of the much loved Sephora Lip Creams, a few Stila Liquid Lipsticks and lots of my current lip loves – the Armani Lip Magnets. Again, I go the entire collection of the Lip Magnets but I managed to streamline the shades, no easy feat.
The next drawer is a bit different. In here, I stashed my favourite colours from the … I received the entire 120 colour collection so I’ve slowly been going through them. I think I’ve kept around 30 – definitely excessive, but they’re all so, so beautiful. A lot of these I haven’t opened, so I’m slowly going through and checking if the shades are me. Until then, they fill a drawer and a half.
The final two drawers are packed full of my long-time shades, including my MAC lipstick collection, my and any other colours I’ve loved over the years and had to hold on to. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s easy to go to these two drawers and quickly find a random shade for the day.
All in all, quite a collection – but it could be a lot worse! I’ll probably be a bit more realistic as I go, as I know there’s probably still shades in here that are similar, or I’m not a fan of.
Until then, however, it’s a pretty impressive lineup of tones and textures.
What do you think of my lipstick declutter?
