Hand Cream Heroes.

Just a couple of months ago, I was struggling so badly with chapped hands and hangnails – my paws were a mess! I made a pact with myself to look after them better, and so here we are. Happy hands, lovely nails.

I feel like applying hand cream is like drinking water, the more you do it, the more you need it! I honestly can’t go a whole day without applying hand cream, although I am a bit of a serial hand-washer and I also like the feeling of applying hand cream, so it seems like it’s entirely my fault!

Here’s the hand creams I have on rotation right now…

Clarins Hand & Nail Cream; This tube sits on my bedside table and it seems to be my go-to most of them time. I always, always apply hand cream before bed, so I’m getting through this tube pretty rapidly. I don’t love the scent of this, it’s quite powdery and floral, but the tube is huge and it’s easy to reach for when I need it. Plus, I feel like I can ignore the smell as the cream is lovely and hydrating without being overly thick or tacky.
It’s made a big difference to my hands, so I can get over the musky fragrance.

Aesop Resurrection Hand Cream; Ah Aesop, a long-time love of mine! I think everyone who has tried this will know that it’s such a beautiful formulation – light yet moisturising, with a fresh, lively scent that smells clean and reviving.
I actually have this in the big 500ml bottle too – I just adore it that much! I could probably slather myself in it if I felt the need… but luckily, I haven’t thus far.
I keep this tube on my coffee table for regular applications in the evenings, it’s just delicious! My hands adore it.

Lanolips Hand Cream; This Lanolips Rose Hand Cream sits on my desk – see, I really am a hand cream obsessive – and I try to slip on a little throughout the day. I’m quite a fan of lanolin, but I find the texture of this stuff hideous, I don’t know why I keep using it! It feels odd going on, doesn’t really sink in and feels incredibly tacky. Once I apply it, I have to sort of rub it off and only then do my hands feel super soft… it’s a bit of a strange one!

By Terry Baume De Rose Hand Cream; The By Terry Baume De Rose collection is a favourite with most, and the latest addition is a softly-scented hand cream that feels incredibly luxe. This has a clay-like texture that sinks in instantly and leaves hands feeling gloriously nourished and instantly supple, all without the tacky feeling. I love the delicate scent and the way this leaves my hands.

Jo Malone Geranium & Walnut Hand Cream; I’m almost finished my tube of this Jo Malone wonder, and I can tell I’ll be looking to replenish my supply. Of course, this smells incredible and has a beautiful formulation that makes application a dream, I usually pop this on as part of my evening ritual as I watch TV in the evenings, it makes such a big difference to my hands!

I told you I knew my hand creams, and I have a pretty solid selection going on right now. Have you tried any of these?

  • I love the Aesop one (can that brand really do anything wrong?!?) and L’Occitane ones too. Got my eyes on the ByTerry Baume De Rose one as I’m already obsessed with the lip balm – it has my name all over it! xx

  • I’ve recently been loving the Lanolips lip balms and was thinking about checking out their hand cream, but might give it a miss now! The By Terry one sounds beautiful, but would you expect any less?! xo

    Love, Catherine

  • Definitely want to try that Jo Malone Geranium & Walnut hand cream now! I really wanted to try the Lanolips one, but now I’m not so sure anymore: I can overlook a bad scent, but a great texture is my number one criteria when it comes to hand creams!

  • The Aesop hand cream sounds pretty incredible! Xx

  • I totally agree about the Clarin’s scent- thats the only thing I don’t like about that hand cream! I’m currently using a Burt Bee’s one that smells divine x

I have an unhealthy obsession with hand creams! This is a lovely selection! I second the Clarins hand cream but I also love the one by Champneys too.

  • Jo Malone hand cream is such a luxe treat. My favorite is from Jill Stuart and L’Occitane, they work really well and smell, look gorgeous.

  • Great Post! Need to start doing the same! My hands are not as soft as they were before…

  • Really want to invest in a Jo Malone hand cream at some point, I have tried one through a tester before and it was so luxurious and lovely to use!

  • I’ve only ever loved one hand cream: L’Occotaine. I’d definitely give these a try though!

  • My mum is a huge L’occotaine fan, but I really like the body shop Hemp hand cream, it’s super nourishing and not over-powering either.

  • My favorite hand creams are Crabtree & Evelyn’s hand creams, but I’ve been wanting to try Aesop’s for the longest time now! <3 🙂 Thank you for sharing all of these great finds!

my all time fav cream (and the only one i feel is actually doing something) is by french connection and i think it’s a christmas special…..i’m just about to run out, without a backup 🙁

  • The Aesop hand cream is amazing! I am lucky to live by an Aesop store, and they keep samples of their hand balm outside of the shop — which, quite literally, I put on every time I pass by! However, my favourite hand cream of All Time (and I have almost eczema-like dry hands) is Diptyque’s Velvet Hand Lotion. It’s a bit pricey, but a bottle lasts for AGES.

  • love this always forget about hand cream!

  • my hands have been so dry lately and i swear by the kiehls hand salve and the rituals one for dry skin is amazing too.

  • I’ve never been one to spend a lot of money on handcream as it’s something that I use so often and run out of! I will say that I wish that it was easier to find hand cream with SPF on it…

I’m obsessed with hand creams – and therefore loved this post! I haven’t tried the Aesop one. So maybe that next?

  • Ailis O’Neill

I found out about this brand called ‘Ashley & Co’ in New Zealand. They have amazing soaps, candles and creams. The scents are soooo good and the names are cute. My favourite is ‘Bubbles & Polkadots’.

For me, there’s nothing like Barefoot Botanicals S.O.S. Barrier Hand Cream. My hands have had terrible skin like (dry, rough, cracked, chapped, bleeding hands… ya’ know) forever, and I remember my mom buying and trying on me all kind of creams from the drugstore, the pharmacy and even from expensive brands. Nothing worked like this little gem I found a few years ago. The tube is small and expensive but you just need a tiny bit. I don’t use it anymore now because I’m into zero waste so I make my own cosmetics (and my hand balm is really good: shea butter, cocoa butter, neem oil, sea buckthorn oil, hemp oil and a little candelilla wax) but this is for sure the best hand cream ever.

Clarins is by far my fav! During Christmas they always sell these three packs for like 25 dollars and I stock up for the year during then!
