Summer, for me, means trips to the park, reading in the sun and lots of fresh fruit and cold desserts! I’ll often ditch my laptop and head straight for my favourite place in the park – Kindle in one hand, sunglasses in the other. It’s all about catching the beautiful weather when you can!
I also keep a tin of coconut milk on hand so easy dairy-free bowls of ice cream too – just beat the pulp until it turns to a thick cream, add a bit of sugar and pop in to the freezer for an hour. Then just scoop out a couple of spoonfuls, top with fresh fruit or peanut butter and chopped nuts. Heavenly… and not too naughty either.
When it comes to summer dressing, I always keep things simple; white lace tops paired with skinny jeans and sandals, or a button up skirt if it’s warm enough. I add in pops of colour by opting for a bright shade of polish – usually a dreamy coral hue!
I find white and coral are my two favourite shades to wear when I’m tanned, they just pair so well with a bit of a glow. So I guess it’s lucky I have an entire rail of white tops then…
I don’t tend to catch much sun in Scotland, so faking a glow is an absolute must! I love, love, love being tanned and I don’t mind when it comes from a bottle.
I usually reach for the He-Shi Gold Foaming Mousse, a recent addition to my glow-inducing beauty stash – but one that I’m recommending to everyone thanks to the no-fuss application. I used to be so scared of tanning mousse (instead opting for the effortless ways of a gradual tanner, more on that soon), but this really does make the whole ‘fake tanning’ thang way too easy.
I use a tanning mitt for even application, and go with a small amount of product at first – then layer it up a little more if I want more colour. I think what makes these tanning products stand out is that they leave no trace of an orange hue on my favourite White Company bedding, and there was literally no fake tan scent. We finally have our faux glow wishes granted, ladies.
Just look at that dreamy glow! Of course, once I rinse it off a few hours later it’s a little more subtle!
If you still find self-tanners a little bit daunting, my advice is to opt for a gradual tanner. The He-Shi Body Sculpting Gradual Tanner offers the most natural touch of colour alongside softening and smoothing properties, so it’s a bit of a wonder product if you’re prepping for no-tights weather!
The honey-tinted gel smoothes on easily and helps to improve the appearance of cellulite, and you can build on the colour – I usually apply a gradual tanner every three days and it never fails to leave me looking lovely!
The last product I’ve been trialling is the Overnight Ageless Tanning Balm; a facial gradual tan that helps to smooth the skin and fight the signs of ageing while you snooze! I prefer to use a gradual tanner on my face as the result is more subtle, so this has been an essential for me lately. It’s incredibly hydrating (you can use it in place of your usual night cream), sinks instantly and promises a natural-looking, healthy hint of colour come morning.
As it’s Sun Awareness Week this week (9th – 16th May), it’s a great time to opt for a safer method of achieving a beautiful glow! Forgo the harmful rays and pick up a self-tanner this summer.
So now you know my secret – my glow is faux. Have you tried anything from He-Shi?
