Mulled Amaretto Cider.

14/12/21

’Tis the season for hot drinks… and cocktails! Hot cocktails? I’m in! I have wanted to make some sort of mulled drink for a while now but I don’t drink red wine so it was never really on my radar. Recently Jordie and I went to the Christmas markets and had mulled cider, and it changed the game! It was delicious, warming and felt so lovely and festive too.

This is something you can make on a wintery evening, with a cheeseboard next to you and It’s A Wonderful Life playing on TV. You can double the recipe to make a big batch and sip on it throughout the film, it tastes so delicious and it’s quite simple to make.

We played around with the recipe and found that we couldn’t really go wrong with it. We found some Mulled Cider seasoning and added that, but a mix of star anise, cloves, cinnamon and any other warming spices should do the trick if you’re willing to experiment.

The real winner is the Disaronno, I’m a big fan of amaretto and it really does feel festive to me. Garnish with a bit of cinnamon bark, a slice of orange and a blackberry and you have yourself a pretty tasty tipple!

To Make Two Hot Mulled Ciders
Add the following a pan and simmer on low heat for about 10-15 minutes…

  • 1litre cider (any old stuff will do, I just get basic apple cider but blackcurrant works well too)
  • the juice of one orange
  • 100ml Disaranno
  • one or two sachets of Mulled Cider spices

Once simmering, take off the heat, leave to cool for a minute or so and pour in to mugs. Garnish with a slice of orange and a piece of cinnamon bark.

If that isn’t the easiest and most delicious comfort drink on these chilly evenings. Will you be making these?
