Our Guest Bedroom Makeover – AD.

/ This post is a paid partnership with Dulux, inspired by Dulux Changing Rooms

Isn’t it amazing what a coat of paint can do? I was feeling a bit uninspired by this room, I knew it needed something but I didn’t want to commit to painting the walls one colour. I wanted to something different – something that would breathe a bit of life in to the room but without taking away from the relaxing bedroom space.

I always feel inspired to change up my home at this time of year – there’s something about the arrival of autumn that makes me want to turn over a new leaf, as well as knowing that I’ll be spending a lot of time indoors over the coming months!

Of course, now that the iconic 90s TV show, Changing Rooms is back on our screens, I think we’re all feeling the itch to pick up paint samples, browse Pinterest and spend the weekends doing DIY. I’ve been glued to the show since the new series aired and I can’t get enough of all the wild interiors choices!

A Fresh Coat Of Paint…

I teamed up with Dulux and their new Simply Refresh range to transform my rather lacklustre spare room in to a beautiful, olive oasis! The Simply Refresh range means you can freshen up your spaces with a single lick of paint – so no more painting around in between coats.

The Simply Refresh range has 30 core colours, and an additional 15 shades in the Feature Wall collection – I chose Overtly Olive, a beautiful sage shade that works in harmony with the Victorian era of our home while also adding an airy, contemporary feel to the space.

I was inspired to paint the ceiling after seeing this pin on Pinterest a few months ago, I loved the way they had used the picture rail to divide the white walls from the coloured ceiling. I asked my joiner to add in a picture rail to the room (something the space would likely have had eventually) and after that, I got to work painting the room.

The paint job…

The Dulux Simply Refresh paint was incredibly easy to work with – it went on well, dried quickly and required just one coat. Despite our impossibly high ceilings (and the ceiling rose!), I managed to do the majority of it myself.
And what a transformation! I can’t believe how much a single coat of paint has transformed this room, it’s the perfect colour to create calming but colourful guest room. The Overtly Olive shade works so well with the Victorian era of the flat – I love it so much.

As soon as I had cleaned up my painting tools, I put the room back together! I wanted this room to have a bit of a jungle feel, so I added leafy houseplants in terracotta pots to really play on that lively element of the new space.
I loaded the bed with pillows in muted tones of smokey lilac and light blue, and added a olive toned blanket that mirrors the ceiling perfectly. The rattan lamp, wooden headboard and chest of drawers also bring in some warmth that really works in here, it really has turned in to my dream guest bedroom!

What do you think of our guest room makeover? Have you also been inspired to give your rooms a fresh coat of paint after watching the new series of Changing Rooms?
