Hello weekend!
Well, happy Friday! I hope it’s been a good one. I thought I’d get my shit together and write up a post because I absolutely refuse to neglect this blog any longer! I know blogs aren’t the main platform anymore, and I understand that we can barely get through a 15 second TikTok before abandoning it due to an ever dwindling attention span, but I want to post on here properly again – more for myself, if anything.
Not only do I feel like this blog is a bit more of a private, less restricted space, I also think it makes me more creative. I often feel overwhelmed by Instagram and it’s unreachable standards, so this feels like a place where I can share a more of what’s going on with me without the pressure.
From now on, I’m treating this a bit like a diary. A place where I can jot down general musings and maybe a bit of goss here and there too. You want the scoop? Head to the .com for the exclusives! It’s less daunting sharing your life updates when there’s less people reading.
Time For Reflection…
This week has been SO up and down – my PMDD has been playing havoc on my mental health these past few weeks so I’ve been feeling a little flat and slightly defeated. When I actually stopped to take stock, however, I realised I’ve done a fair amount despite not being on top form. I’ve been working out daily, usually a spin class but sometimes swimming (which, by the way, is a serious workout!) and I’ve been changing things up in the flat and hunting down some vintage homeware pieces I’ve had my eye on for ever. Work has been breezy, I’ve worked on some great campaigns and we just announced a Christmas spin-off of Scotland’s Home Of The Year too. It’s all go, but in a good way.
I also went to my first gig since March 2020 which was so much fun – my friends and I went to see one of my favourite bands, Larkins, here in Glasgow. It was an absolute hoot, possibly one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. I actively remember feeling guilty for all the times I wished a gig was finishing sooner, the times I left before the last song to beat the crowds, or skipped out on gigs altogether. I will never take live music for granted again!
Weekend Plans…
For a while there it felt like my weekends were so busy, it was post-lockdown mayhem! I live for the slower pace of the weekends; going to the gym, grabbing coffee and having a pamper before casual drinks with my friends or dinner with Jordie. I like knowing that I have two days stretched out ahead of me. Unfortunately, I have the willpower of a fork so I usually end up going for “a quiet drink” that turns in to cocktails followed by dinner, maybe with a bit of karaoke (pre-pandem, anyway…)
The weekends are my time to catch up on life, potter about the flat and read away entire mornings, coffee in hand, so I’m really hoping this weekend is a chilled one! I want an afternoon bath with a glass of wine, a delicious home-cooked dinner and to binge a new series while snuggling the cats. If you see me dancing to Keane at trnsmt tomorrow, mind your business!!!
On My Reading List…
I’ve been falling behind on my reading lately, despite having an absolute STACK of books to get through! I’m currently reading Scabby Queen by local author Kirsten Innes, and I have Sorrow & Bliss and Fault Lines for when I’m finished. I’m hoping to make a dent in my pile this weekend – I’m really gunning for this lazy weekend indoors aren’t I?! I hope my friends see this and know not to invite me anywhere…
A Few Highlights…
I’ve been living for playlists lately, I have music on constantly and I’ll happily listen to a playlist on repeat for hours on end. Even when I get in the car, I always immediately plug my phone in so I can choose the music. I’m currently playing this wee one I made earlier in the week, but I know my country/pop-punk mashup ‘Tennessemo‘ has been a hit with you all too. I’ll do anything to hang on to 2006.
Last night Jord and I ordered ramen and finished Clickbait on Netflix, it was quite a good series but I got a little bored towards the end. Once I zone out and pick up my phone, all is lost.
Of course, The Handmaid’s Tale is back now too but we’ve actually been really slow at watching it. I’m used to watching it on my own (Jord only watched the first few series recently) and usually I’m completely addicted, so I guess occasionally I just need to watch a show without having to wait for Jord! Anyone else feel like this with their other half sometimes?!
The Upcoming Week…
I had a quick glance at next week’s diary and it’s gonna be a busy one! A few campaigns to shoot, an exciting show (!!!) and some meetings, alongside a couple of flat bits I want to get done. I’m glad I’m back in project mode because I’ve missed making changes to the flat – I think I just reached my limit with it for a while there. Anyone who has renovated will know that feeling!
I’m going to finish our spare room and the office and after that I’m *hoping* to start on the kitchen – I really want to swap out the tiles and change the layout a little, so I’ve had my guy round helping me plan the space better. I can’t wait to have it done, it’s been a bit of a weight on my mimd for the last wee while.
But for now, I’m going to take out the bottle of wine I hastily put in the freezer to chill, lay out some fancy crisps and listen to music while Jord tells me stories from the shop today. Forever my favourite way to spend a Friday eve. What have you got planned for tonight?
