It’s all about the shimmer…
While I may not be all that adventurous with my makeup these days, I’m obviously still a 90s gal at heart because my love for all things glittery has not waned! Even on my laziest makeup days I’ll inject a little shimmer in there somehow, whether it be a simple sparkle-laced shadow or a glowy lil illuminator.
Armed with a handful of recommendations, and summer just around the corner, I thought it was time to introduce my most loved products for a bit of glitter and glow! Let me enLIGHTen you…
Chantecaille Liquid Lumière Anti-Aging Illuminator
I feel like I’ve mentioned this (perfectly packaged!) illuminator a lot lately, it really has been a staple in my beauty bag and a little something that I’ve found multiple uses for. It’s perfect to wear with or without make-up and truly gives that sort of ‘lit from within’ dewiness to my skin that I’m always hoping to achieve. It’s super easy to put it on – I mix it in with my foundation, pop it on cheeks for a healthy highlight and add whatever’s left on my finger to anywhere else I like to add a touch of light-reflecting glow.
NARS Super Radiant Booster
This illuminating booster is a gorgeous lightweight formula that blends with my favourite bases effortlessly for a lovely added glow. I love to layer it depending on how my skin is looking, you can really build the product up on dull days.
Sometimes I’ll sweep it all over as a sort of first-step glowy primer, but usually I’ll mix it in with my base for a soft radiance to my complexion. It’s a must have!
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick
I am obsessed with these shadow sticks. OBSESSED. I have so many of these, all in a variety of nudes and naturals which all make my blue eyes pop. They are oh so simple to apply so I find myself either dousing my entire lids for show-stopping shimmer, or most often I just apply a little along my lash line for extra definition and the most enviable hint of glitter. It’s a low key way to add sparkle in to your casual everyday look.
Bobbi Brown Sparkle Shadows & Luxe Shadows
Following on from the above, let me introduce another couple of extraordinary glitter additions from Bobbi B. The first, the humble Sparkle Shadow, which may be my favourite Bobbi Brown eye shadow. I discovered these through the Bobbi Brown Pro Artist who did my wedding makeup and even all this time later I still use them on the daily. They’re pressed coloured fine glitters, I wear Sunlight a lot (the lovely champagne hue above) but Baby Peach is another fave. I just sweep them all over my lid or use ’em to add a touch of sparkle to any other eye looks too.
Some time ago, the brand moved it up a notch with the release of the Luxe Shadows, which are like the original shadows but way more full on. Heat Ray, pictured, is a mesmerising shimmering cooper, but I also adore Moonstone, another neutral that packs a whole lotta glittery punch.
BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Gold Lava
This lil number is the gold-flecked highligher of DREAMS. Seriously, one sweep of this and your highlight be poppin’.
I apply this lightly (lightly being the key word here) with a fan brush as the final step in my makeup routine, it gives the most fascinating golden glow and is densely pigmented with flecks of gold and pink – its got a bit of wow factor, lemme tell ya.
Hourglass Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss
These hot-off-the-press glosses are super pretty (ahh Hourglass always win on the packaging front), surprisingly moisturising and totally not sticky at all – in fact, the first time I applied them I said a little “ooh!”
The colours are so impressive, when I’m running out the door I throw one of the nudey hues in my bag, but I love the bolder tones for an easy hit of colour – plus, the fool-proof paddle shape applicator makes them super easy to glide on in one lazy stroke.
Are you subtle shimmer kinda gal or more of a full on glitter lover?!
