A beauty overhaul…
It’s been so long since I had a big beauty spree like this – I actually can’t remember the last time I stocked up on my old favourites AND added a few ‘new in’ picks to my basket too. I really went to town when I was making this order, but it’s been long overdue – some of my most used products were starting to look a little questionable…
I usually raid my press sample stash when I need something new and that always tides me over, especially as I’ve become so laidback with my routines in the last few years. I tend to stick to what I know (as in, cream blush, glitter shadows, natural skincare brands etc.) but I’m always happy to try new brands and products. Although I feel incredibly grateful to try new releases all the time, there’s no better feeling than treating yourself to new beauty bits is there?!
Stila Convertible Colour Cream Blush in Gerbera; I wonder how many times I’ve come back to this blush over the years?! I think at one point I owned this creamy wonder in 4 or 5 shades! I really only wear cream blush as I love the dewy flush it gives my skin, and I find the Stila shades some of the most flattering.
In terms of formula, this is a little more… for lack of a better word, greasy? than most cream blushers I’ve tried, but once blended it looks like a lovely radiant pop of colour! I find Gerbera brings out blue eyes and really works perfectly with a tan (even if it’s faux!)
NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint; In a odd twist of events, I repurchased this nars base exactly three years after it was first launched! I love it just as much second time round and I can’t believe I’ve been living life without it for so long. This gives my skin such a flawless, natural finish – it’s great coverage but it buffs in so well so it never looks heavy or caked on. I’m a big fan!
A hydrating mist…
Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator
I’ve seen Anna share the love for this face spritz quite a few times, and since my skin has been seriously parched lately I thought I’d give it a go. The idea is to apply this before your serums/oils and moisturiser, to give skin an extra dose of hydration. I usually apply some sort of toner inbetween my products anyway, but I loved the sound of this extra quenching spritz.
I also use it over foundation in the mornings or sometimes even throughout the day if I feel like I need it!
Disciple Dreamy Skin Retinyl Oil; If you’ve been with me for awhile, you’ll know about my struggle with problem skin. I recently discovered retinol and it really has saved me, but I also find it can be a bit harsh – I’m really just experimenting with different formulations at this point, but this Disciple oil has rave reviews so I decided to give it a go.
I’ve heard retinyl is a little more gentle than retinol so I’m hoping this will give me the same skin-clearing magic but without the drying feeling. Here’s hoping – I’ll get a post together with some blemish-fighting hero products in due course.
Josh Rosebrook Advanced Hydration Mask; I popped this in my basket because I wanted to try more from Josh Rosebrook, but now I’m wondering if it may be a little heavy for my acne-prone skin! I am constantly trying to find products that quench my dehydrated and dry skin but don’t break out my volatile complexion – it is seriously tricky!
I think when it comes to using this, I might just apply to to my cheeks and forehead and not to the areas I tend to breakout (my chin and jawline) and see how I fare with it – I’m hoping it will nourish and add radiance to my tired skin without dealing me a handful of spots, but we’ll see…
Stila Sheer Liquid Lipstick in Ballerina; I do love a good lazy lip pick, and Stila seem to have me covered with their Sheer Liquid Lipsticks. The colour goes on like a gloss but has a very durable matte finish, so I don’t need to worry about maintenance during the day. I love how low effort this is, perfect for slicking on without a mirror and keeping in your handbag for any ol’ event.
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask; I finally gave in to the hype and added this Instagram favourite to my basket. I rarely stray from my favourite Origins Drink Up face masks for hydration, but I do love to try new products from time to time. I haven’t given this a go just yet, but I reckon it’s going to be a Sunday bath time staple from now on judging by the reviews!
I even gave my makeup table and my skincare tray a bit of a rejig to celebrate having some new products in for once! It’s been a while since I stocked up like this, but it’s really given my routines a new lease of life. Have you tried any of these?
