New In Beauty Buys.

A beauty overhaul…

It’s been so long since I had a big beauty spree like this – I actually can’t remember the last time I stocked up on my old favourites AND added a few ‘new in’ picks to my basket too. I really went to town when I was making this order, but it’s been long overdue – some of my most used products were starting to look a little questionable…

I usually raid my press sample stash when I need something new and that always tides me over, especially as I’ve become so laidback with my routines in the last few years. I tend to stick to what I know (as in, cream blush, glitter shadows, natural skincare brands etc.) but I’m always happy to try new brands and products. Although I feel incredibly grateful to try new releases all the time, there’s no better feeling than treating yourself to new beauty bits is there?!

Stila Convertible Colour Cream Blush in Gerbera; I wonder how many times I’ve come back to this blush over the years?! I think at one point I owned this creamy wonder in 4 or 5 shades! I really only wear cream blush as I love the dewy flush it gives my skin, and I find the Stila shades some of the most flattering.
In terms of formula, this is a little more… for lack of a better word, greasy? than most cream blushers I’ve tried, but once blended it looks like a lovely radiant pop of colour! I find Gerbera brings out blue eyes and really works perfectly with a tan (even if it’s faux!)

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint; In a odd twist of events, I repurchased this nars base exactly three years after it was first launched! I love it just as much second time round and I can’t believe I’ve been living life without it for so long. This gives my skin such a flawless, natural finish – it’s great coverage but it buffs in so well so it never looks heavy or caked on. I’m a big fan!

A hydrating mist…

Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator

I’ve seen Anna share the love for this face spritz quite a few times, and since my skin has been seriously parched lately I thought I’d give it a go. The idea is to apply this before your serums/oils and moisturiser, to give skin an extra dose of hydration. I usually apply some sort of toner inbetween my products anyway, but I loved the sound of this extra quenching spritz.
I also use it over foundation in the mornings or sometimes even throughout the day if I feel like I need it!

Disciple Dreamy Skin Retinyl Oil; If you’ve been with me for awhile, you’ll know about my struggle with problem skin. I recently discovered retinol and it really has saved me, but I also find it can be a bit harsh – I’m really just experimenting with different formulations at this point, but this Disciple oil has rave reviews so I decided to give it a go.
I’ve heard retinyl is a little more gentle than retinol so I’m hoping this will give me the same skin-clearing magic but without the drying feeling. Here’s hoping – I’ll get a post together with some blemish-fighting hero products in due course.

Josh Rosebrook Advanced Hydration Mask; I popped this in my basket because I wanted to try more from Josh Rosebrook, but now I’m wondering if it may be a little heavy for my acne-prone skin! I am constantly trying to find products that quench my dehydrated and dry skin but don’t break out my volatile complexion – it is seriously tricky!
I think when it comes to using this, I might just apply to to my cheeks and forehead and not to the areas I tend to breakout (my chin and jawline) and see how I fare with it – I’m hoping it will nourish and add radiance to my tired skin without dealing me a handful of spots, but we’ll see…

Stila Sheer Liquid Lipstick in Ballerina; I do love a good lazy lip pick, and Stila seem to have me covered with their Sheer Liquid Lipsticks. The colour goes on like a gloss but has a very durable matte finish, so I don’t need to worry about maintenance during the day. I love how low effort this is, perfect for slicking on without a mirror and keeping in your handbag for any ol’ event.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask; I finally gave in to the hype and added this Instagram favourite to my basket. I rarely stray from my favourite Origins Drink Up face masks for hydration, but I do love to try new products from time to time. I haven’t given this a go just yet, but I reckon it’s going to be a Sunday bath time staple from now on judging by the reviews!

I even gave my makeup table and my skincare tray a bit of a rejig to celebrate having some new products in for once! It’s been a while since I stocked up like this, but it’s really given my routines a new lease of life. Have you tried any of these?

  • I want to try the Summer fridays masks so badly, but I have decided that I need to start using up my products first, before trying new ones (not a suitable mentality for a blogger, as it cuts your things to write abut significantly haha).
Lovely post, all of these seem very interesting!

    • I’m the same, I’m on a one in, one out policy – especially when it comes to clothes! I always find though that it’s the stuff I love I never want to use up, so my routines are currently very streamlined and I’m just shooting myself in the foot 😉
Will let you know how I get on with the mask x

    • Oh I can totally relate to this, the temptation is so real. When I find something I really like though I’ll use it like it’s going out of fashion! When you do get your hands on it I’m sure you will fall in love with it! x

  • You’ve just about convinced me to go for that Stila blush & sheer lipstick! They both sound perfect!

    Deanna | luxandvitae.com

    • The ultimate duo! I hope you like them as much as I do X

  • Hi Kate — I love Josh’s line, but I have the same skin type as you. Have you ever explored the iS Clinical Active Serum? It is a game-changer for acne prone skin. My skin is clear now and I still use this nightly alternating with a retinol.
Your photography is stunning as usual!
    X Caitlin

    • Hi Caitlin, my skin is definitely more tame than it used to be but always up for trying new things!

  • I first purchased the Stila Convertible Colour back in the day because of you, so it seems so nostalgic to see it on your blog again! To this day it’s one of only two cream cheek products I really love, I think it’s just a bit tackier and seems to last on the skin much better!

    • Wow, what a nice story, so glad to have helped. Doesn’t it just, can’t fault it!

  • That Stila blush is so beautiful

    Candice | NatalyaAmour.com

    • I know right, can i have one in every colour please!

  • Need to try the mist and the masks <3 🙂 I've been kind of dry lately (LA's weather is crazy!), so I definitely need some of these to help restore the glow to my skin!

    XO, Elizabeth T.

    • Oh I hear ya, Scotland has well and truly prepared me for all sorts of weather.

  • This jet lag mask sounds like a dream! I also love the look of this Stila lipstick x

    • I can’t wait to try the mask, I’ve got jet lag written all over my face just now!

  • That Nars skin tint sounds amazing 🙂

  • This Stila blush looks super pretty! I love colours like this one xx

    • Oh I know, it’s just too cute. Tempted to try some more colours, feeling all adventurous now!

  • Both of these Stila products look amazing! Especially the cream blush… I’m obsessed with creams ❤️

    Arianna | Southernbelleforever.com

    • You and I both Arianna! Creams are so good for when you’re having dry, dull days and need a bit of glow in your life. X

  • I love Nars so much! These sound good, I will have to check out that blush. Thank you for the recommendation.
    xx Jenelle | http://www.inspiringwit.com

    • No problem Jenelle, anytime! Be sure to share any other good finds. I’m a big NARS fan also.

    xx Bry Jaimea | bryjaimea.com

    • Isn’t it just, makes such a difference.

  • StrawberryMakeupBag

Stila Gerbera is such an iconic shade! And a huge throw back for me, as I used to have a few shades in my stash back in the days – remember Peony? aw! – and they were all I wore. I also gave in to the hype and grabbed the Summer Fridays mask. Can’t wait to try it and see if it really deserves so much hype. x

    Beatrice | Strawberry Makeup bag

    • Yes, 100% what a throwback! Oh for sure, you won’t go back!

  • Such gorgeous photos! I’ve always wanted to try out a Stila blush, they’re such a converted beauty staple!

    Lucy | Forever September

    • They are life-changing material honestly!

  • For the last two years I’ve been into light coverage makeup. I’ve totally ditched foundation and only spot conceal along with a little concelar under the eyes. I’ve always wanted to try some sort of skin tint to help even out my complexion and I sure do love me some Nars items. Another thing I have been really into is cream products. So many people talk so highly about this Stila cream blush I have to make sure to check it out during my next Sephora visit!

    • I’ve been feeling the same lately and encouraging my skin to ‘breathe’ as much as possible. You should absolutely try the Nars skin tint – you won’t regret it. Creamy blushers are also great to make your skin look and feel more nourished – sometimes powders just dry you out! x

  • Bernadette

The josh rose brooks hydration accelarator and the summer fridays jet lag mask are at the top of my skincare wish list, both sound so incredible. x

  • Stila Gerbera! Wow that takes me back!

  • I’m glad you said the Josh Rosebrook mask might be too heavy for your skin. I was doubting about getting it but now I know I should probably choose something else! x
