My favourite kind of evening…
I am fanatical about self-care, I’ve always been someone who has put her wellness first and I know how much a few hours of wind-down time and an early night can work wonders for my health (and not to mention, sanity!).
My absolute favourite, faaavourite way to spend an evening is to check in to a fancy hotel, order room service, have a long soak with a handful of bath salts and then laze around in a fluffy robe watching TV. Don’t say I’m not good to myself!
After a couple of stressful weeks filming the show over summer, Jordan and I decided to give ourselves a night away in London for a bit of rest and relaxation. I’d been meaning to stay at the London Artist’s Residence* for so long, so when they invited us to stay I jumped at the chance to see the city’s most Instagrammed hotel!
It was a chilly autumn day when we arrived and we were both incredibly tired and cold when we got there, we couldn’t wait to shut ourselves away in our magnificent room. I’d always wanted to stay in this suite, I’d seen SO many photos of that beautiful green velvet scalloped headboard and the dreamy blue tiled bathroom. I just had to Instagram it for myself.
The Artist’s Residence is a small boutique hotel group with locations doted about England; we had previously stayed in their Brighton hotel a few times but never the London one, which is located near Victoria Station – so perfect for us flying in to Gatwick. Each room is decorated differently, usually commissioning local artists to make the space unique and cosy.
We didn’t plan to explore London too much, it was definitely more of a laidback visit with the sole aim to relax and catch up on sleep, but we’d taken a trip to Selfridges earlier that day to stock up on essentials. And by essentials yes I do mean chocolate chip cookies and sheet masks.
We founded a bakery in Selfridges and spent more than I’d care to admit on baked goods, and then I headed to the skincare counters to find a couple of face masks to really make the most of the evening. I told you, I’m big on self care!
I ended up picking up the Origins GinZing Peel-Off Mask and an Erborian Sheet Mask – the perfect pamper duo.
After a long soak in the bath – the hotel has a beautiful selection of products to use, from bath salts to body washes – I had a lazy nap in my robe before we started to get hungry. We were planning on ordering room service, but we’d seen how cosy the restaurant looked so we decided to pop down for dinner. I can honestly say it was worth getting out of my robe for.
The hotel’s restaurant Cambridge Street has a great menu and we ended up having one of the best dinners we’d had in a long time – the Scottish Halibut with truffle was delicious, and after sharing a bottle of wine we’d perked up and were having such a wonderful evening. It was exactly what we both needed!
It may just have been a night away in London, but it was exactly the sort of relaxing break we both needed. No pressure on ourselves to see the city, just a chance to experience a heavenly hotel bed and switch off for an evening.
Are you a fan of a cosy night away?
* Our stay and dinner at the wonderful Artist’s Residence was complimentary.
