Mixing materials & working in textures…
This past year or two I’ve really fallen for the Southern Californian sort of style in a home; I adore the simple but beautiful combination of white walls, lots of greenery and natural textures – whether that be from rattan mirrors, bamboo furniture, jute rugs, woven details or simple storage baskets.
I’ve filled my flat with beautiful natural details, helping to create a calm, relaxing environment. I find these soft details really add a peacefulness to a room. For me, a room feels it’s most tranquil when there’s a mix of textures and natural elements, although it always helps if there’s a candle burning away somewhere too!
Sourcing good quality pieces is super accessible and affordable; I always look to Pinterest for endless inspiration and high street brands like Maison Du Monde, La Redoute, H&M Home and even eBay are my favourites for finding lovely homewares. I find the light wooden pieces or lovely woven additions are so timeless and versatile.
I’ve fully embraced the rattan way of life in my living room; I got my rattan side tables from Bloomingville (similar), I did my usual and got these (gifted from Oh What’s This) just because I loved them, but they’ve ended up being the perfect side table for Jordie and I – our living room is pretty wide so the coffee table sits far away so it’s nice to have somewhere to sit my tea and other random items!
A few of my favourite pieces…
You’ve probably eyed up my BEAUTIFUL white acacia wood and bamboo sideboard from Maisons Du Monde, I think this is my favourite piece in our whole apartment. It’s perfect for the space, although I always find media units quite tricky to style so let me get back to you on that!
The table (similar here) at the back was meant to be a temporary piece while we got open shelving built, but we’ve had to change our minds on that so the table is here to stay! I think it works perfectly here and it’s SO easy to style!
The newest addition to my furniture collection is my sideboard in the bedroom which is from La Redoute, I’m currently using this to tackle my ever expanding wardrobe situation! It’s not exactly what we needed (chest of drawers probably would have been better!) but I loved it so much and it was the only piece I could find that worked after months and months of searching! I adore it.
I love that natural furniture has this incredible ability to feel effortless and super stylish simultaneously, it’s a very fun and easy trend to embrace and you can do it in small quantities too. If you’re not in need of any new furniture, try embracing the rattan trend with lamp shades (we have this one in our hallway and I adore it!), or little details like trays, bowls and baskets!
Yes, I’ve realised that I am incredibly passionate about all thing rattan! AND I’ve noticed that it’s made its way into my wardrobe this season too – my Cult Gaia obsession is a little out of control!
With summer just around the corner, it feels like the right time to share some of my favourite pieces with you. Are you a fan of the rattan trend?
