I always say that once you have your base sorted, the rest of your makeup comes together – I really understand the importance of having a good lineup of skin-perfecting wonders on hand to get my skin looking lush.
I’ve gathered some tips and tricks to picking the products to prep your skin; from primers to powders and everything in between. A good lineup of base products will ensure your makeup never looks anything short of perfect…
Prep; A good moisturiser will set the tone for the products that follow, so find one that is quenching without being overly rich! Something that feels smoothing on the skin, and allows makeup to glide over and sit comfortably throughout the day.
For this, I adore the – this multi-purpose prep product leaves skin feeling instantly hydrated and perfectly supple. It also has just the right amount of shimmer to give skin a dreamy glow, meaning skin looks even and healthy and I use a whole lot less foundation afterwards. It’s a, if you ask me.
Primer; I’m all about primer, I think it’s the secret to long-lasting makeup. If it’s radiance you’re after, something like the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow is the ultimate product for blurring imperfections and giving skin the most enviable glow!
I like a bit of smoothing action myself, so I tend to opt for the Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch – it smoothes over pores, minimises blemishes and really helps to ensure your base looks its best.
Correct; A little bit of correction action goes a long way in evening out tone and ensuring skin looks as flawless as possible. I love the for minimising under-eye bags. I also find it’s great for keeping blemish scars and dark marks on the downlow too.
Conceal; I find that using concealer under my foundation means I get a way more natural (but super even) result. Too much foundation where you don’t need it looks caked and muddy, but a touch of concealer on blemishes and redness can mean skin looks naturally even and oh so perfected.
I’m loving the BECCA Aqua Luminous Concealer right now, it’s so easy to blend and the result is always a very healthy complexion!
Coverage; Taking the time to choose a foundation or tinted moisturiser to suit you is always, always worth it! It’s the glue that holds the rest of your makeup together.
Sometimes I’m happy wearing a lighter base, like the brilliant BareMinerals Complexion Rescue – it conceals and perfects effortlessly, offering light/medium coverage for those good skin days.
Other times, I’ll want to go slightly heavier but not compromise on the result. I like wearing makeup to not look like I’m wearing makeup, and I think a good foundation will do that. A good base is Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation, it’s an all-round winner that perfects and improves the complexion without ever looking unnatural.
Highlight; If I’m short on time and have to skip primer, concealer and powder, I’ll always make sure I highlight my skin. This can be as simple as adding a few drops of the incredible to my base, or just sweeping on a quick application of the equally as amazing RMS Living Luminizer. Both perk up my complexion in an instant, and do wonders for my skin!
Set; I don’t always, always use powder, but it is a must if I’m expecting my base to last or I want a super flawless finish to my skin.
For me, there’s really only one powder I carry at all times, and that’s the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural. This light pressed powder transforms my skin, leaving it even, healthy and set in place. It promises hours of wear and is a must for evenings out or photos.
Spend some time choosing (and applying!) your base and you’ll be amazed at how much better your complexion will look!
