My edit of the midis!
Give me a midi dress for any occasion; dressed down with Vans for daytime, layered under cosy knits for wintery temps, or styled with heeled sandals for summery evenings out. They are versatile, comfortable and timeless – some of my favourite midi dresses I’ve had for years and rewear them again and again and again.
I said earlier this month that I’ve been on a mission to find my outfits for filming Home Of The Year in a few weeks, so I thought alongside all those hours I’ve spent online shopping, I’d round up some of my favourite places to look for my faithful midis!
The Comfiest Styles
I am such a sucker for comfort, I like to put on a dress and be able to feel good in it – none of this not being able to breathe or feeling like your organs are being crushed every time you sit down. I just won’t wear anything that is a strain on me throughout the day. I will perhaps sacrifice comfort for a big event but it’s a rare occurrence these days.
For me, a floaty midi is best for looking and feeling good. If you’re worried you’ll look shapeless, try something that is fitted around the chest but flows out around your tum. I especially like these styles as I have big boobs, so I can look quite top heavy if my dresses aren’t fitted in the right places.
I also love a wrap dress or anything that has a tie around the middle to create a bit of a shape – again, so flattering yet easy to wear.
My Go-To Places To Shop…
I tend to shop on ASOS a lot of the time because I like how easy it is to return parcels, and I think if you’re willing to spend a bit of time searching you can find some really beaut brands. The ASOS own range is also good if you’re looking for something effortless, you know the kind of dresses that you can just throw on and go? Love ’em.
I love YAS, Twisted Wunder, The East Order, & Other Stories, Faithfull The Brand and Lost Ink – some of these can be a little pricey but are often on sale so it’s well worth adding any favourites to your saved items and checking back regularly or waiting for 20% off.
Don’t sleep on New Look either, especially for summery dresses you’ll wear on holiday or a few times in summer and then put in storage for the following year. I love relaxed shirred midi dresses and New Look always have a few different colourways for £30 or so!
Another site I head to when I’m need of some new everyday outfits is Nobody’s Child, not only are their styles super flattering, they have regular sales so you rarely have to pay full price. The quality isn’t aaaaamazing and you might need to sew on a button here or there, but other than that I think the styles are lovely and so affordable. The Alexa style is one of my favourites.
Mango is another favourite of mine, I always end up loving everything on their site! I did an order recently and purchased the beautiful brown floral dress I’m wearing in these photos and it’s one of my favourites. So flattering and flowy!
If You’re Feeling Spendy…
I feel like there’s been so many clothing lines that specialise in patterned dressed popping up lately! I love Rixo and Ghost, but sometimes I die a little at the prices, but if you’re up for a little bit of searching you can usually find the styles on sale somewhere.
This is the same for Faithfull The Brand, I have quite a few dresses and I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price. ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Coggles, Anthropologie, Net-A-Porter all stock the brand so it’s easy to keep an eye on a style you want and check if it goes in to the sale.
I was going to pay full price for the Faithfull Mathilde dress I’m wearing in these photos, but thankfully I ended up finding it for a lot cheaper just by googling the name of the dress. Go me!
French Connection, Monsoon and Whistles are always shops I forget about, but I’m always pleasantly surprised when I eventually remember they exist. Their sales are where it’s at! Monsoon especially always has some beautiful dresses on their site.
Free People and Madewell are also brands you should keep an eye on, especially during sales. Their pieces are always a bit more unique, so they’re ideal if you’re searching for the perfect wedding guest dress.
As always, I’ve added some of my favourites to a little edit below! Let me know if you’ve got your eye on anything here – I’m definitely thinking about making a purchase or two…
