I wanted to create a ‘go to’ page for any questions you may have – especially those few that I seem to get asked often! Hopefully you will find the answer here, but if not there’s always Twitter…
WHERE DID THE NAME ‘KATE LA VIE’ COME FROM?
When I started this blog, back in 2009, I just used an old online alias because it was supposed to be a personal blog for my thoughts. I never thought it would take off, I didn’t even consider the possibility!
Because of this, my blog was originally called ‘ghostparties’ – a silly Myspace-era username that stuck.
Towards the end of 2015, I realised that I had outgrown ghostparties and wanted something that was a bit more personal. Something that fit me, worked with my content and a name that I wouldn’t outgrow.
After months of going back and forth with various names, I settled on Kate La Vie. It’s short, pretty and personal, it fits me a whole lot better and my blog has improved because of it!
HOW DID YOU START BLOGGING?
I started creating websites and blogs in my early teens, as a way to jot down my thoughts and chat to people online. I’ve always found writing and coding so much fun, but the pressure of university meant I lost my way with it and didn’t pick it back up again until after I’d graduated.
As I said, I was previously ‘ghostparties’ and I started this blog to practice my writing and share my love of beauty products. I discovered the blogging community, met some great girls and never looked back!
DO YOU BLOG FULL TIME?
I do indeed, at first it was just a hobby, then it was a part-time job and finally I had built it up enough to be able to do it full time.
I’ve been blogging full time for about three years now and I love it, it’s incredibly demanding and occasionally so stressful that I consider doing something else entirely, but I love it.
It’s a job that requires a lot of knowledge and a wide range of skills, so it keeps me busy.
WHERE IS YOUR ACCENT FROM?
I’m originally from New Zealand, and I lived in Australia for a couple of years as a kid, but I mostly grew up in Scotland. My accent is definitely a mix, and it can be hard to place.
IF YOU WEREN’T BLOGGING FULL TIME, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING AS A CAREER?
I’m not entirely sure, I reckon something in maybe marketing or writing. I’ve always loved beauty, so perhaps something that combines all of those (that isn’t blogging!).
I never had a set idea of what I wanted to do when I was growing up, it changed weekly! So to find something that is so versatile, a job that changes every single day, has been a dream come true for me!
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS?
I hope I’m still blogging full time, maybe with an even bigger audience! I’d love to be living somewhere else, perhaps New York or Melbourne.
I’d like to be working on more interiors projects too, for myself and others. We’ll see!
