The last month of the year…
HAPPY CHRISTMAS MONTH! I managed to hold the festivities in for as long as possible this year but as soon as December first hit, it was all advent calendars and Christmas films!
I love this time of year; my calendar is full, the shops are full of sequins and my birthday falls in December too.
It’s set to be a bloody good month, so let me fill you in on what I’ve got going on…
01. Home updates. I always, ALWAYS get the itch to work on our flat at this time of year, and I hate myself for it! So much chaos.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned this by now, but around three years ago we went through the big job of sanding our floorboards but they weren’t varnished properly so they’ve been marked and scratched to death and in a terrible condition. It’s one of those things that has really, really bothered me – I even thought about moving at one point to get away from it!
They’re finally getting fixed, and hopefully in the new year we’ll get some plans in place to redecorate this room because it is a bit scruffy (the perks of buying a Victorian tenement, eh?)
So while I’m in Paris this week, Jordan and the cats are next door staying with my brother while our flat is in a state of disarray!
I’m hoping to completely change up our living room in the new year; I want a sort of SoCal, chilled vibe in here! Lots of rugs, rattan and brass – the dream.
02. Birthday fun. My birthday is 21st December, which is an absolutely terrible date for a birthday but I don’t know any different really. I always joke that I only look forward to my birthday because it’s the Winter Solstice so the days finally start getting lighter from then on!
Anyway, when Jordan asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, I said I wanted to stay in a nice hotel, have a long bath and get in a robe, order room service and watch Christmas films, and then wake up in Edinburgh for my birthday. It sounds like it’s my 90th birthday… but isn’t that just the dream?!
We ended up booking The Principal Charlotte Square and yes I am hitting up an Oskia facial in the spa and afternoon tea in their Garden restaurant. Excitement levels are maxed out.
03. Time off! I think one of the reasons I love Christmas so much is because I actually get time off. I feel like no matter what I do, whether it be a trip away or a weekend at home, I am always doing a bit of work here and there.
Christmas gives me a proper break, and I don’t feel guilty for it either. No emails, no reason to leave the house. Bliss!
04. I’m starting to think about travel plans for the coming year, which is always exciting! We have to plan trips around our regular, expensive, exhausting trips to New Zealand – don’t get me wrong, I love going back but oh my god. So far, so pricey!! I wish we didn’t have to go all that way.
So far we’re thinking maybe Marrakech at the start of the year, New Zealand around March/April, and New York again if we can do it cheap!
So that’s my month ahead! Along with many social events and work committments that will no doubt leave me absolutely done in by the middle of December.
I’ve added a little KLV edit below of some bits I have on my wishlist, and please do leave a comment with what’s on for you in December – I love reading them!
