Fresh summer home vibes…
Our little home hasn’t had any sort of big updates in a while; I feel pretty set with the furniture and decorative accessories that we have going on. That being said, I do love to give the place a little rejig once in a while, especially come summer when the place needs a freshen up.
I think because I work from home, I see these walls so often and I feel uninspired and bored with what’s going on, but I hate the thought of continuously shopping or DIYing to keep me interested. Instead, I spend some time every few months switching up the rooms – and I can never get over the difference it makes!
I usually do this whilst I have a big clean, taking off everything from the cabinets and shelves and then putting them back somewhere new. I swap a lot of plants and accessories between the kitchen and living room because they have quite a similar vibe, and it always makes me happy to see something I love find a new home somewhere else.
I usually see how long it takes Jordan to notice too, although I think he’s kind of accepted that sometimes he’ll come home and everything will be in a different place. The guys got a hard life.
In summer I like this room to feel a bit more open, so I’ve left space in the bay window and pushed the furniture back a bit and the room seems a lot bigger. I also took down the curtains and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made, it’s so much brighter and you can see the beautiful shutters too.
I’m not sure how I’ll feel about this in a few months when it’s freezing, but for now it’s looking very cute.
I also moved all my plants back in to the living room, mainly because we get a lot of light in here, especially in the mornings, so it makes sense to create a sort of jungle! It makes watering them a bit of an easier task too (I should really just install a sprinkler system at this point!).
I know it doesn’t seem like a groundbreaking update to many, but for us it just gave the room a bit of a revival. The room feels more open and inviting, the extra plants have breathed life in to the space and I love how new it all looks to me, despite nothing actually being new!
What do you think of a summery rejig? Do you find yourself rearranging little corners of your home?
