Five Good Things.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I thought a new year should mean some small changes around here, and it was time to rejig my ‘5 Things’ post – I wanted to something more solid; sort of a fun roundup of what I’ve been up to, what I’m loving and all that.
And so, Five Good things was born. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while and with the new year, it seemed to make sense!

01. We arrived home for New York yesterday morning and we are JET LAGGED TO THE MAX. Nothing could wake me up this morning, I was comatose. Now I’m up though, I have a lot of life admin to do. We still have to take down the tree (I cry), I need to crack on with blog photos and I also need to do several loads of washing. Exciting.

02. I started my second month of roaccutane yesterday, and I was thinking about doing a little ‘end of month’ type post with some thoughts and feelings. I didn’t take a photo of my skin before I started, just because it was hideous and no one wants to see that, but I’d like to sum up the process I guess. Interested?
So far, it’s been good – it got worse before it got better, and I still have a lot of bad scarring, but I can definitely see that my skin is clearer already!

03. I don’t have many travel plans for now, and to be honest I’m quite relieved – two back to back trips has really taken it out of me! I think I’ll keep this month for organising myself and also working on finishing the flat. I want to redo my office and maybe pick out some nice furniture for the rest of the house. Excitement!

04. I need to give a special mention to the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist, a product I stumbled upon in Sephora and had to have! I hadn’t actually heard of this before I bought it, but a quick Google told me it’s got quite a following. I can see why, this mist is like a very fine, silky oil/serum that instantly transforms skin. A must for super-dry complexions, like mine!

05. I know you guys will be expecting a mammoth New York post, so I’m going to work on compiling the ultimate New York city guide! I’ve been twice now, and both trips have packed in SO much, so it’s a going to be a great guide for anyone who is new to the city.
I’ll have it up this month, so hold tight!

What have you guys been loving this month?

  • I think this month is really about stepping out of the crowd, take some time for ourselves and think about plans for the future year. I’m also heading to IKEA tomorrow because I’m finishing my flat too and I need some little things to make it more cozy 🙂

  • Can’t wait for your New York posts!!!

    Wanny x!

  • Love this new post category!

You might be interested in a subreddit on reddit about skincare (and also the use of accutane, etc.). I’m lucky to say that I’ve never had problems with my skin but I still enjoy reading the discussions there a lot.
You might know it already, but here’s the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/skincareaddiction

    Have a great weekend!

  • I’m so jealous of your New York travels! How long did you spend there?

  • Anna

A post about roaccutane would be amazing! I am supposed to start my first course in a month as I have been struggling with acne since I was fifteen (now 24). Any advice about getting through it would be greatly appreciated!

  • Victoria Holdstock

Yes for roaccutane! I was suggested to go on it ages ago but the pages of side affects put me off. My skin continues to be rank, so considering giving it a go.

  • I love the idea of five good things recap. Lovely. I nice way to round up a week. I cant wait to read your New York post.

  • Looking forward to the New York City guide!

  • New York is my home with the city within a 30 minute drive! I love reading about where travelers go and fall in love with the food, ambiance, sights, & landmarks! I’m excited to read your guide!

  • Such a lovely post!!

I can’t wait to see the New York City guide! I’ve never been, but I bet it was so much fun. I’m also definitely going to be trying the mist. I have always loved the way dewy skin looks and I’ve honestly been on the lookout for a good mist for a while.

  • Abigail Marie Cecchine

I did about a year of accutane! If you need any tips/ just want to talk about it I’d love to chat. Skin problems can be so frustrating, but I just wanted to say that who you are is going to shine through from your lovely soul no matter what you have on your face:)

  • Loved this. Would definitely be interested in hearing about skincare 🙂

  • Can’t wait to see all of your fabulous photos from New York <3 🙂 And ooh, roaccutane sounds so interesting – I'm really looking forward to reading about your experience with it. Hope you had fun on your trip!

  • Interested in your thoughts on the acne treatment, I’ve been using a blue light to kill the bacteria under the surface and I’ve seen a huge improvement.

Lovely post! I hate having to unpack after a big trip! I still have my tree up and I’m dreading taking it down haha. I’ve been loving my photo a day challenge this month. I finally created my own and tons of people joined it. Definitely a good start to 2016! I’m looking forward to your NYC post xx

  • SisseChri

I would love a post about your skin journey 🙂

  • Jennifer Helen

I love the idea of five good things – it’s so important to focus on the positives and remember what we’re grateful of in life. I struggle sometimes to write down five things I am happy for so it’s good to see other people doing it!

  • My skin has been pretty bad recently so a skin post would be amazing!

  • Lets Talk Beauty

I am so looking forward to your NYC posts – I bet your photos are incredible. I love that city so much. Many many happy memories but I love to see what other people love about it and the places and things they like to do. Its such a vast place that you could live there for 50 years & still only scratch the surface.

    Happy New Year xxx

  • I can’t wait to see your NYC guide! I’ve been loving your photos on instagram so will be all over your post for recommendations 🙂

  • The Sunday Mode

Really excited about your NY related posts because I’m heading there later this year and I’m so freaking ready for NY to embrace me, haha

Also good luck with your roaccutane journey, my skin used to be god awful but thankfully has cleared up over the past few years but I’m always completely sympathetic to anyone else going through skin woes.

  • Can’t wait to see all your stuff from NY! I’ve always wanted to go

  • Can’t wait to see the NYC photos! I’ve been travelling the US the past 3 weeks and I’m not looking forward to coming home to all the washing either! x

  • Kyra

I ended up being on isotane (similar to roaccutane) for about 5 years, and now I’m 24 my skin is mostly clear. It can be really hard, and expect your skin to dry out immensely – especially your lips! I found chapstick was the only thing that worked for my lips, but other people have had success with other brands. At the end of the medication, it does end up clearing your scarring a bit, I had the WORST scar on my cheek but luckily that’s mostly gone now. Good luck with the medication – it’s well worth the side effects.

  • I love seeing blogger’s NYC guides. I lived there as a child so I know all the fun outdoorsy stuff and shopping but not the going out/bar scene sort of stuff!

  • grace

I would be really interested to hear your experiences with roaccutane as I’ve been battling with breakouts for the last couple of years and have considered it on multiple occasions – I’m still terrified of it though!

  • sophia cook

I can’t wait for the New York post, my husband and I have just booked 5 nights there in October for our 1st Anniversary and we want to pack in as much as possible! We would also love to see a kitchen post, we’re redoing our entire kitchen this year (along with a knock through so that the kitchen and living area is open plan! I’m kind of dreading the mess that’s going to come along with that) and would love some inspiration x

  • Lucy Birchall

Hope the jet lag wears off soon, I never had it bad when I came back from the States, just when I was actually there which was a pain in the bum! Looking forward to your New York posts! I’ve never been, and as you’ve already got me desperate to visit Amsterdam, I’ve no doubt New York (and I’ve always wanted to go) will be right up there too. Better start saving now, eh?
