Clinique Pop Lip Colour & Primer.
I know this may sound shocking, and I’m sorry if what I’m about to say offends anyone… I’m not a big lipstick person. I love the stuff, don’t get me wrong, I own just about every single shade going – but I don’t usually consider it an essential part of my routine. I’ll more likely slick on lip balm over lipstick, as I find it’s way less maintenance. Occasionally, however, something comes along that changes everything (yep, read that last part in Morgan Freeman’s voice).
I feel like with lipstick, you always sacrifice one thing – if it’s pigmented, it’s usually hard to apply, if it’s matte, it’s drying, if it’s moisturising, the pigment is rubbish and the staying power is even worse. When Clinique released these new lipsticks and sent me the entire range (it was a magical moment), I was interested but I didn’t expect to be wowed. I had a feeling they were about to be sheer and unimpressive – I was vury, vury wrong.
These butter lipsticks offer a serious pop of colour, the formula glides on to the lips and instantly you know they’re going to be winners. They feel incredibly nourishing, and the texture really does melt in to the skin. The priming properties within are meant to smooth, nourish and condition the pout all the way through wear. I had a red one, Cherry Pop, on for around four hours yesterday and it was still going strong by the time I removed it to swatch the rest. Heavenly!
First up, Cherry Pop – this is one of my favourites as its such a crisp, flattering red. The lipsticks have quite a glossy finish, but you can dab this off a little to make them matte.
Another favourite, Punch Pop – effortless, bold and seriously chic. I love this kind of colour, it really suits my fair skin.
Beige Pop – I expect this to become an everyday shade for me. It’s just the perfect soft nude – warm enough to flatter, but never too pink.
Sweet Pop – Another great everyday shade as it’s so easy to slick on. I went for full-on colour, but you could tap it off a little for a more played down result.
Melon Pop – this such a ‘me’ colour, fresh and perky but not too out there. I definitely recommend this hue, such a dreamy shade.
Poppy Pop – another pretty red, I love this just as much as Cherry Pop. I expect this will be my go-to red for the warmer months!
So that was just a few of my favourite shades, but there’s a whole 16 shades in all! They’re priced at £16 each, which isn’t bad for a high-end lipstick, and they go on counters in Boots from tomorrow – good luck trying to make a decision!
What do you think of the new lipsticks?
(Excuse my squinting, it was VERY sunny!)
