Clinique Pop Lip Colour & Primer.

I know this may sound shocking, and I’m sorry if what I’m about to say offends anyone… I’m not a big lipstick person. I love the stuff, don’t get me wrong, I own just about every single shade going – but I don’t usually consider it an essential part of my routine. I’ll more likely slick on lip balm over lipstick, as I find it’s way less maintenance. Occasionally, however, something comes along that changes everything (yep, read that last part in Morgan Freeman’s voice).

I feel like with lipstick, you always sacrifice one thing – if it’s pigmented, it’s usually hard to apply, if it’s matte, it’s drying, if it’s moisturising, the pigment is rubbish and the staying power is even worse. When Clinique released these new lipsticks and sent me the entire range (it was a magical moment), I was interested but I didn’t expect to be wowed. I had a feeling they were about to be sheer and unimpressive – I was vury, vury wrong.

These butter lipsticks offer a serious pop of colour, the formula glides on to the lips and instantly you know they’re going to be winners. They feel incredibly nourishing, and the texture really does melt in to the skin. The priming properties within are meant to smooth, nourish and condition the pout all the way through wear. I had a red one, Cherry Pop, on for around four hours yesterday and it was still going strong by the time I removed it to swatch the rest. Heavenly!

First up, Cherry Pop – this is one of my favourites as its such a crisp, flattering red. The lipsticks have quite a glossy finish, but you can dab this off a little to make them matte.

Another favourite, Punch Pop – effortless, bold and seriously chic. I love this kind of colour, it really suits my fair skin.

Beige Pop – I expect this to become an everyday shade for me. It’s just the perfect soft nude – warm enough to flatter, but never too pink.

Sweet Pop – Another great everyday shade as it’s so easy to slick on. I went for full-on colour, but you could tap it off a little for a more played down result.

Melon Pop – this such a ‘me’ colour, fresh and perky but not too out there. I definitely recommend this hue, such a dreamy shade.

Poppy Pop – another pretty red, I love this just as much as Cherry Pop. I expect this will be my go-to red for the warmer months!

So that was just a few of my favourite shades, but there’s a whole 16 shades in all! They’re priced at ยฃ16 each, which isn’t bad for a high-end lipstick, and they go on counters in Boots from tomorrow – good luck trying to make a decision!

What do you think of the new lipsticks?

(Excuse my squinting, it was VERY sunny!)

  • These colours look fabulous! I am more of a lipstick and mascara person and tend not to wear heavy colours. My fave must be the Poppy Pop colour, as I have dark hair and this would complement me so well. It’s not too prominent either.

  • Oooh Melon Pop is a bit of me. You’ve really sold these to me and thanks for swatching so many! I’m a big fan of how the packaging is the same colour as the lipstick so you don’t have to go rummaging through your bag pulling open every lipstick to find the right one you want (ahem – MAC).

  • Some beautiful shades

  • Out of those Melon Pop and Sweet Pop are my faves. I saw you post a picture of this on instagram and I sat there staring at it for a good 20 minutes wishing that all of these were actually sitting in front of me. I’ve never really tried Clinique but this packaging is so pretty and appealing I might have to. Maybe there’s a giveaway in the future for the lipstick colors that you don’t like? ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Kathleen Rose

Every colour looks beautiful on you! I’m definitely going to need to pick a couple up.

  • All the shades that you posted about are so pretty and wearable and I quite like the slight glossiness of them. I very much agree with you though, I don’t consider lipstick a staple in my make up routine either, it’s very much an optional extra, much like eyeliner or eye shadow.

    Sarah xo | PolkaDotLemon

  • Oh these are so, so beautiful. I want to buy them all just so I can display them all next to each other like in your photo and just, look at them. Poppy Pop is gorgeous.

  • I agree with you ! I am not a lipstick person either and prefer lipbalm or gloss. I usually don’t wear any lip colour at all and use a balm instead. These Clinique lipsticks sound great however and I love the colours on you especially Poppy pop. xx

  • These sound absolutely dreamy! Need need NEED! That nudey pink is right up my alley.

  • These look stunning, might have to pick up a shade or two.

  • These are just so perfect! They look great on the lips on their own and don’t seem to require a liner which is nice. You should wear lipstick more often, the poppy pop looks great on you xo

  • These are so gorgeous! I love the nude shades, and that first red. It’s so adorable on you. I’m on a no buy… but these are going on my mental wishlist.

  • Amylia

Love these colors on you! Just wondering, how did you prep your lips? Did you put on lip liner or chapstick or anything, or did you just apply the lip colors straight on?

  • How Pretty!! I will definitely have to head back to the Clinique Counter & give these another look. ^-^

  • Elizabeth

I want all of them! I wish you swatches the rest. I’m having a hard time deciding which one/s I want!

  • Verena

Kate, could you show us the other colours too, please?

  • I just tried Ruby Woo by MAC and it faded really unevenly after lunch. It is my first truly red lipstick and now I understand why people say lipstick is high maintenance. As for the clinique lipsticks above. I really like that the packaging accurately features the lipstick. And definitely Cherry Pop looks the best!

  • Jessica

These look divine! Iโ€™m thinking of picking up Melon Pop and Beige Pop the next time Iโ€™m at a counter, they suit you so well!
