5 Things: A Few Happy Things.

IMG_9853
Well, December is quite a a joyful time so I thought I would take a moment (or, y’know, 30 minutes) to go over some happy things that have happened this year. I know you guys like these ‘reasons to be happy’ posts and I love reading all the positive comments, so it’s a win all round.

01. Getting our own place! I said I wanted to learn to drive and own an apartment by the time I was 25 – and I completed said mission early. Although, it’s worth mentioning that I can only drive *legally*, I’m not sure I should actually be allowed on the roads. This will surely change when I eventually have my own car…
Anyway, our flat has gone from being incredibly bare and slightly rundown to an absolutely palace (to me) and I’m so happy we have our own little place to decorate and turn in to a jungle. I expect 2015 will be the year I get a bit experimental with my interiors, I can sense some fruity things coming! Watch this space…

02. Music, music, music! This has definitely been a busy year music-wise, from Jordan’s band’s second album being released to the (what feels like) hundreds of tours he’s been on this year, and all the gigs we’ve been to together. We both live and breathe music so it’s been so fun to be at a gig every other week. This year I saw some of my favourite artists live, from Katy Perry to Bombay Bicycle Club, The Killers, Lorde, Flood of Red (lol) and I even turned in to a Coldplay fan after seeing them play in the rain at Glasgow Green in summer, pint of wine in hand – totes emosh! (Jordan: ‘my eyes are sweating’). I also went to the EMAs and quite enjoyed Royal Blood. I expect next year will be even more fun-packed as we’ve already got tickets to see Foo Fighters, one of my long time favourite bands. The excitement.

03. Festive fun! This year I’ve felt differently about Christmas, I guess maybe I’m growing up or something (surely not?) but I’ve definitely been more excited about the actual festivities and traditions. It’s my birthday in a couple of weeks and for once I don’t feel stressed about the plans (it’s a bit awkward because it’s three days before Christmas so always feels a bit rushed), but I’m just looking forward to the weeks ahead. Most of my family work offshore or live in New Zealand so it’s almost impossible to get them in one place at the same time, but we’ve done a pretty good job of it this year it seems. My parents are selling our family home too (to sail the world on their boat, no less), so this will be our last Christmas in the only proper home I know – sad but exciting.

04. New hobbies! I took up weaving this year, as I’m apparently a 76 year old woman trapped in a 23 year olds body. Honestly, it’s been the most fun! I’m not very crafty but this is literally so easy but at the same time… not? There’s so many techniques to learn and the fact that doing one wall hanging doesn’t take long keeps it interesting. I’ve also taken an interest in exercise for the first timeΒ (hopefully 2015 sees me, y’know, get fit or something) and I’ve also been keeping plants alive. Well done, Kate.

05. Feeling happier! It’s been a really good year for blogging and I’m sure we’re only at the tip ofΒ theΒ iceberg (or whatever that saying is). I’ve found some amazing new blogs to follow and bloggers to befriend (sounds sinister) which makes the whole experience even better. I feel like when my internet things are doing well, all of me feels much lighter and blogging comes easier, something I look forward to every day. There’s been so much positivity wherever I look, so here’s to more of that next year!

What are you happy or excited about at the moment? Any highlights to share? Do tell…

  • What a lovely post! Makes me so happy to read these kind of posts as sometimes its easy to take things for granted, so its so great to hear about things you’re thankful and happy about ! πŸ™‚ I must say I’m slightly jealous of your parents though, that sounds amazing and though I’m sure they will, I hope they have a fantastic time!
    Have a lovely weekend!

  • Always good to look back on the year – this one’s been a bit tough for me but I’ve got my license this year as well (finally…) bought a car, been working full time for a year and started my blog. Also have started making plans for things next year – hopefully 2015 will mean a few things get ticked off the bucket list.

This year, for the first time, I prepared ALL the Christmas gifts for the people I love in advance. I mean, it’s the first week of December and I’m already prepared!
    It feels so good!

  • Sounds like an amazing year indeed. Although it’s been a good year I don’t have any highlights or so, next year will be more about achieving some longterm goals and just focussing on the things that make me happy.

Hahaha I’m slightly terrified of driving, too! In January I will “celebrate” (that I’m still alive and had killed nobody) two years as a driver and I still feel I shouldn’t be allowed on the road. The fun fact is that my parents and friends think I drive pretty well (maybe I do, but I get really anxious every time I have to drive).

I really love your home and I’m willing to have my own to start decorating (actually I have a few photos of your flat in my “deco inspiration” folder haha!)

This next Thursday I will be done a surgery in my vocal chords and I’ll be six months without working (I’m an actress) so there are no highlights in my life right now but I’m managing pretty well, I don’t know what I’m going to do with six months of free time but I stay positive and happy anyway πŸ™‚

  • I’m happy that I finally took the step to create my blog after months of hesitating and thinking “meh, there are much better blogs out there”. I’m happy that I’m not so bad with photography as I thought I would be, even though I have LOADS to learn. And I’m happy that I’m surrounded by really nice and supportive friends!
