Benefit Hoola Bronzer.

As someone who doesn’t usually embrace the golden glow, I am a little wary of bronzer in all shapes and sizes. I’ve been testing and trialling Hoola these past few weeks or so and, surprisingly… I’m hooked.

I always expect bronzers to be quite orange and daunting, but Benefit Hoola Bronzer (Β£23.50) is actually a lovely bronze hue. The packaging is beautiful too, I love the simple design – it makes a big difference to my makeup table. Can I write that in a review? I’m unsure.
I was instantly, I guess a little… shocked at how well this applied when I first put brush to skin. I guess I expected it to be quite cakey and orange but the warm tones were effortless once applied, I didn’t need to blend for hours to achieve an even result and the powder itself wasn’t too dark so I had a very subtle warmth to the skin.

I would say that bronzer is the hardest makeup item to get in to, I have always wanted to be able to add a touch of colour to my skin but it’s always felt like I couldn’t quite manage it. Hoola really delivers on the ease of application, the powder is so velvety that I feel like the texture of my skin improves after lightly washing this all over my complexion.
I use a large, fluffy brush to dust Hoola over my skin – it takes almost no blending at all and I have gorgeous glow that isn’t orange or obvious. I tend to just apply this over the top of my forehead, over my cheeks and chin a little and then blend out. The powder makes for such even application so you never feel worried of how it will turn out in the end.

All in all, a life changing bronzer that has made a massive difference to my routine!

Have you tried Hoola?

I agree, I always struggle with bronzers! I’ve heard so many great things about Hoola, and I think I need to try this out. The Body Shop bronzer is also very good.

  • Anna Blush

I’m also super wary of bronzer. Having pale skin I’m always worried it will come out really orange. This sounds lovely though. I also love the Body Shops honey one x

    • I am totally with you, the Body Shop Honey Bronzer is perfect for my pale skin!

  • I love how they’re sending the personalised ones out! This is my all time favourite bronzer! I’m following on bloglovin xx

I’ve wanted to try this for so long but I was afraid of spending so much money it and finding it doesn’t suit me but after reading this I think I might go for it!

  • I’ve only tried this a couple of times, but I think I am going to have to buy the fullsized – it’s such a great bronzer! Also lucky you got a personalised one!

I’m always swatching this one but I’m very happy with my TBS Honey Bronzer since it’s light enough for my very pale complexion. I think this one’s a bit too dark.. πŸ™ But I think I’m going to give in sometime soon. I’m weak.

  • I’m really getting into bronzing, as someone who’s already brown I never saw bronzing as a step I would want to take but a lot of my darker skinned girls do it and the look is stunning so I may just have to invest in this! so many good reviews

  • Lauren Parker

bronzing is my favorite part when applying my makeup, i’m really considering to go out and purchase this! πŸ™‚

I love bronzers, maybe I should try this one! I love the bourjois bronzers x

  • I’ve not tried Hoola bronzer, but I do love Bobbi Brown’s Bronzing Powder in medium which is matte and non muddy like Hoola. I actually use a tiny brush (the Real Techniques contour brush) to pop bronzer into the hollows of my cheek and then blend it out with a fluffy brush for a subtle look.

I love Hoola, I’m very fair skinned and I find it’s a perfect colour as it has no orange tone.

  • Looks nice. I currently use the two faced matte bronzer.

I know what you mean when you have pale skin bronzers can be a real nightmare, I’m personally loving the Urban Decay Naked palette in Streak, the colour is great on my lighter skin!

I got a mini version in my benefit bronzing kit and I fell in love with it! When it runs out I’m going to have to get the bigger version. Great review x

  • I am super pale so I always think they look too harsh on me, but I love the way ladies with a tan look with them.

  • Emily Shea

Ah Hoola <3 The first bronzer that I ever got into! If you like this, you should try the CoverFx bronzer. It's even more natural and subtle than Hoola!

  • I couldn’t agree more, this bronzer is perfect for lighter skin tones. It really leaves such a nice and natural bronze. I’m glad you like it too!

  • Cel

Was thinking of getting this or TheBalm’s Bahama Mama as my first bronzer/contour but swatched it in store and it basically disappeared on my skin haha, so it’s definitely for the fairer ladies.

  • nueyork

I usually hate bronzers, so I’m reluctant to purchase them. Hoola and the Body Shop honey bronzer have me tempted.

  • I’ve only tried Dallas, which is perfect for summer with a tan! But I think it’s suitable for darker skin tones… πŸ™‚

  • I love the hoola bronzer. This and the body shop honey bronzer are the only ones i use right now. Isn’t it weired that most people can’t stand shimmery orangy bronzers but those are pretty much the only ones available, specially in drugstores? I wish i could find a more budged friendly one that actually works for me.

  • I use Laguna by Nars which I love on my pale skin but this one looks great too…I have to try it !

I have a little version of this in the “bronze of the champion” box by benefit but i think it’s a little bit to orange for my skintone. maybe i have to give it another try. πŸ™‚

  • I’m yet to try Hoola, but considering my longstanding appreciation of Benefit products, it really wouldn’t surprise me if it’s in my makeup bag within the next few weeks! πŸ˜‰

  • Thank you SO MUCH for this post. I received a sample of Hoola a while ago and have been unsure as to how to use it as I’m paler than Caspar so it’s a little bit daunting. Time to get me a new brush xx

fab~ but I love the too faced!

The brush looks a little weird… maybe a bit square? But I do love a good bronzer. Makes me look “healthier” I think!

I prefer Dallas by Benefit, it looks more like a tan on my pale cool toned skin, but Hoola is good too.

  • Abby Evans

I love this and it is one of the only bronzers I can find that don’t give off a tint of orange!

  • Nicola Simmons

I think bronzers are so tricky – I can never find one that’s matte enough, no shimmer or orange. I think this might be the next one to try. Although wish I could get one with a personalised brush – so cute πŸ™‚ x

  • Hoola is my go-to bronzer! I’m fair skinned, so finding a bronzer that works well with my skin tone is not an easy task. If anyone wants a bronzer that has no shimmer, but a gorgeous blowy brown, I highly recommend this one! Even though the price may be high, you get a large amount and only use a few swipes at a few time.

Love this bronzer but hate the packaging! I love using a big brush for bronzer and I can never bloody fit it in haha!

  • I just recently tried Hoola, and now I’m hooked to bronzing. I have to agree, prior to this bronzer its been really difficult for me to get into bronzing! But Hoola works great for my skintone! New follower, looking forward to seeing more posts!

  • Hi !

I use this bronzer everyday and I’m addict.

The color is not orange and it’s a mat bronzer.

I think is perfect for contouring also.

  • KnittedFox

Hoola is great! I’ve been using it on and off for the last 12 years. Even though I have picked up some different ones over the years for a change of pace, I have always gone back to this one.
